I have a iPage site www.radiosale.biz which already has the paypal shopping cart, what I want to do is add oscommerce in as the 3rd party shopping cart to my site. What is the easiest way to do this? everything I have read in tutorials have talked about templates I dont want to redesign my site, I only want to add oscommerce to it..

I have been told if you have some programming background it's not hard to figure out, I have alot just not any in PHP please send me in the right direction to get started.

Good question... I dunno what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I bump into an useful answer. You should email the people at iPage as they probably could give you an answer..

So where would be the best place to start to try and figure out how oscommerce works. Is there a easy to follow tutorial that tells step by step what to do..

There are alof of different places to find information. The knowledge base is a good place to start (link at top left of page). There also used to be a wiki iPage site around someplace. Not sure if it's still here..

Basically, the files you're going to want to change the appearance are.

Header.php.

Footer.php.

Column_left.ph.

Column_right.php.

Index.php.

And stylesheet.css..

Back these files up, and expirament with adding some html code to these file, and see what you can come up with...

I think that for folks new to oscommerce there is one thing that it is essential to understand about the way it works. Basically, for each page you see on-screen there are two oscommerce pages of the same name. In the root directory of your oscommerce installation (the folder where you would normally have your index.html page) you will find an index.php page. You will also find an index.php page at this level includes/languages/english/. At the root level you have the php code, which calls in the header, footer, left and right columns, and a space where it calls in the content from the other index.php page. It is this other index.php page (in includes/languages/english/) that contains the html code of what appears in the middle of your screen.

If you want to you can dump the info boxes in the left and right columns, place your products in the html content of your pages, with manual 'add to basket' links into the oscommerce shopping cart system..

Hope this helps - Vger.

Thanks for trying to help, but right now I'm so confused and at a complete loss. You make it sound like it's so easy to do and yet I cant figure out where to begin. Right now I'm setting up stuff in the iPage domain Adminstration. I understand html code inside and out, I know java, javascript and xml yet I cant seem to figure out how this php works...

PHP isn't all that different from Javascript. The syntax is very similar..

Start with the header.php. Download it to your desktop. Add a small image to it or something in HTML, outside of the php blocks. Then upload it back to your server, and view your main page in a browser, and see the change you've make..

That should get you started...

How do you manually "add to basket". That is what I want to do, but I have no clue how to do it. Can someone shed some light on how to do this? Much appreciated in advance...

Any help on how to manually add to cart would be great..

Hi. I'm no expert but I attached osCom to my website. My host advised it should go in my public_html directory. I gave it a name ie 'store' and it can be accessed at.

All the admin and help files from osCom are in the same directory..

Hope this helps.

I think you're going to find that it'll be much, much easier to add your iPage site to OSC rather than adding OSC to your site..

The bottom line is, you're probably going to need to customize OSC, and make it look like your site, adding bits and pieces of your iPage site into the OSC pages...
