Medifast is a wonderful program with many different types of support and a fabulous community. We understand that everyone is an adult and this is not a "mean" group. For some of us, we thrive on this program if we have a place where we are held accountable, where we commit to the program 100% and where we have a place to chat with others who feel the same..

What we believe:.

1. Cheating on Medifast is NOT a strategy to get us out of our fat suits.

2. The only way for us to learn about our problems with food is to take the word "choice" out of the equation when it comes to Medifast. Our only "choice" is 5 packets and 1 weighed and measured lean and green a day.

3. We look to those who have been successful with this strategy to continuously remind us about why this way, for us, is the way to go.

4. We believe that, even though we are completely committed, knowing that we have a group that holds us accountable for our actions is both useful and important.

We commit to:.

1. Remove the word "choice" from our vocabularies.

2. Follow the Medifast plan as written, including transition and maintenance.

3. Tell our "inner brat" to shut the H-E-** up and quiet him or her through abstinence from off plan foods.

4. Give and receive tough love without complaining or calling each other "mean".

5. Cheerlead fellow group members as they follow the path to thinness.

6. Make Medifast the LAST diet we ever go on.

7. Check in with the group as often as our schedule reasonably allows.

8. Be honest with ourselves and our Medifast family and to stay 100% OP at all times. We also swear that WHEN (not if) we are having a tough time and feel like we may eat SLUDGE, to come to our Medifast family first and ask for support and help to get us through the struggle..

Good question... I dunno what is the answer to that question. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I find an good answer. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably could give you an answer..

I haven't been on the boards for a couple of days so I hope everyone is doing great.. I seem to be at a standstill but staying OP and trudging on... Looking forward tot he weekend.. Will get some workouts in and catch up on laundry, food shopping, cleaning my house , bills and all that other fun stuff...

Good morning Cindy - I have a mess to tackle today too. Today is supposed to be absolutely gorgeous, 70 degrees - just can't wait to get out there. I have ordered a new pair of sneakers and will start a walking program next weekend. I'm still having some minor issues wth my knee, but I think I'll be good to go soon..

I'll have to try that one...I've mixed practically everything else with my coffee. Bet it'd make a yummy iced coffee, too. I never drank iced coffee before MF. Couldn't get enough of it last summer..

Apologizing to everyone's eyes for the glitter...I just didn't want to remove it even after I saw it. Poor TDK will be afeared to fly it, now..

Carolyn, I looked into CrossFit last year when I was wearing my Gym Rat Hat. It was NO JOKE! It was a little out of my price range since I already have a YMCA membership, but how do you manage a workout like that on 5+1? Do you do 4+2 on those days? I know they really promote Paleo and Zone food plans, too. How are you able to keep up? I recently started wearing a BodyBugg so I can crunch some numbers and get back into the gym (hopefully) without seeing a stall on the scale. I'll stop here, short of hijacking the thread, but I'd love to learn more about how you manage to keep the scale moving with a workout like that. Please PM me, ok? I want to get back to feeling strong! Thanks!.

I stayed up last night after all and created one more pair of ear vines. I may post them; I may keep them. They're very pretty with blue and clear Swarovski crystals..

Hi, Penny. I just joined this group last night. I can't answer for Carolyn but I can tell you what my DH did while on Medifast and doing Cross Fit. He's an uber-athlete who does about the hardest workout they'll suggest for a 51 year old. He did Medifast to lose the age-related spare tire that he acquired, and of course lost 23 pounds in a flash! After only about 2 workouts on the 5&1, he knew he couldn't function that way. Tired, faint, unable to focus.

He felt great and his weight loss continued at a fast clip. Now that he's in transition, he's using a recovery shake right after his workouts and all is going well..

Cross Fit is awesome and I aspire to join my DH there soon! I'm not in near that kind of shape, however, so I'm starting slow at home. I'm hoping to stay on the 5&1 till transition, then ramp up the workouts to the Cross Fit level..

Morning TL'ers!.

Jan thanks so much for your kind words and the 50lbs button. I won't violate the non-glitter policy here but it did my heart good to see the "celebration" in it. Yes, indeed, I am thrilled to have 50 Medifast pounds gone (pardon the pun). Even happier that, for me, it is a total of 60 including the 10 pre-MF pounds I managed to shed during the holidays with the help of a couple of personal trainers. What the training taught me, though, is that I could spend hours and hours in the gym and lose a tiny bit of weight, or I could change my food dramatically, drop some significant weight, and then return to getting stronger. I'm ready to get stronger now - or soon - but I'm going to take it easy.

Once I'm in Onederland, I will crank it up a bit. Not sure I ever want to do 4&2 though. Kinda skeered of it..

I was down another 1.3 lbs this morning! Love the after weigh-in whoosh! Just that much more to claim next Thursday. 229 is just teasing me now! LOL.

I mentioned my 21 year old son last night. Jennifer's comment about her uber-athlete DH made me think of this. So I'll share a pic with you. The TKD in my username stands for Taekwondo, and here's why (my son is in red on his way up to kick blue's chest and/or head):.

Morning all!! I have been so busy, and this is the first day I've really been able to read here in a while. I have been 100% and haven't struggled, but I missed all the inspiration here. Gonna be busy the rest of the week with family coming in from out of town. Hope to get all caught up again late next week when they all leave..

I am so excited to finally have less to lose that I have already lost!!!!! Yea!!!!!! It feels good to be more than halfway there!!!!!.

Good morning TL'ers! Just got caught up with yesterday's thread and all I can say is I NEED that dancing poop for my signature! Omg all of my friends would agree that is soooooo me! I almost spit coffee across the room when I read that!.

I'm off today but work tomorrow so I have a lot of running to do. I'll be back later at some point. Just hope this sinus migraine goes away, this is day 2 and I was near vomiting from it last night. Blah freaking allergies!.

, since starting CrossFit in September, my weight has fluctuated between abou 260 and 225 pounds and while I haven't been even close to 100% on Medifast during that time, I've kept up my CF workouts. If I can do it at such high body weights, you can do it. It's doable, trust me..

A lot of the "boxes" (which is what CF calls the workout area) will give you a free session to see if you are interested..


, you raise questions to which I don't know the answer. There was a 3 week period in December/January where I was 100%, (and had been since early November) and my weight loss practically stopped. During that time period, I did a 4 & 2 on the days I worked out that hard and felt like I needed it, but not every time. Sometimes I feel dizzy during the workouts and other times not and I've never discerned a pattern as to when that happens and when it doesn't..

I remember wondering at the time my loss slowed so much if I was taking in enough for the intensity of my workouts and if I wasn't, was that contributing to the drastically slowed losses? It was around that time that I fell off the Medifast wagon. So now that I am back, I am again struggling with how I should eat on CrossFit days. Should I ALWAYS do a 4 & 2 on CrossFit days? Should I stick with the 5 & 1 as long as the workout is under 45 minutes? I don't know what to do!.

Giving up intense exercise is not an option. I have Bipolar II and it's instrumental in keeping me on an even keel and helping manage my symptoms. So hopefully I can figure out the best way to do Medifast while being a CrossFitter...

Jennifer, thanks for the info! Yes, when I first returned to 5+1 on January 1, I tried to stick with my nightly workouts (3x weights, 3x cardio, alternating) and felt the same way you described. Since Id just started 5+1 and knew I was losing, I didnt want to mess with it. I knew it would just be temporary and soon Id be able to get back in the gym as I got closer to goal. But I do want to keep my energy up AND keep the scale moving..

Carolyn, I felt so much better when I was in the gym regularly. Aside from flirting with my super cute husband while we're there, I miss moving my body. I'm going to look over on the exercise thread and see if anyone else has the same questions. I hate to say it, but most answers from the personal trainers that I see on those boards (while I respect their qualifications) pretty much say to listen to your body and do 4+2 if you feel like you need it. That's all well and good, but what if that makes the scale stop? Then what? I'm not so sure they have a canned answer for that...

Good morning to everybody! I'm new so if you've never seen me before, that's why..

I'm bipolar as well and find that my mood is soooo much better when I exercise. It makes a big difference in energy, combats depression, and makes me a lot nicer to others! I've been doing couch to 5K and I think it may be stalling my weight loss some. But, I know that that is not nearly enough exercise to warrant me doing a 4&2. Even if it was, I don't think I could handle that!..

, I actually asked Medifast support about intensity of workouts. We all know the general rule of thumb is no more than 45 minutes a day. Depending on what you are doing, that could burn anywhere from 200 - 600+ calories. Big difference. They didn't have an answer, though. They just repeated no more than 45 minutes or go to a 4 & 2..

I've been thinking I might try the Body Bugg to get a better idea how many calories I am burning off during CrossFit workouts..

When my scale practically stopped, there is also the possibility that it didn't have anything to do whatsoever with my workouts. I might have just hit a lull. I should have powered through it instead of quitting! Quitting.

You're right, Carolyn, quitting is the only road to sure failure! BTDT, got the tshirt (XL tshirt). I know calorie burn is a very individual thing and Medifast is probably just protecting themselves by not giving a clear answer on this, no matter how much it infuriates me! That is precisely the information I am looking for - how much do I need to eat to sustain a calorie burn of xxx? I was hoping to at least get a formula or a percentage... So I decided to get a Body Bugg, track my daily expenditure while 100% OP for a few weeks, and see what the scale says. I'll take my recorded calorie deficit for the weeks that I had the best losses and use that as a guideline. And when I DO finally have that information, I will twist it and turn it and mold it into information that we can all use in the form of a simple formula and I will post it over on the exercise thread. You can hold me to that.

No more than 45 minutes or switch to 4+2...

Good morning all! Glad the coffee is on. So tired and it's been a hard week emotionally, so I need an extra cup today..

I hear you ladies about not wanting, or not able to for mental health reasons, to give up exercise. I have to exercise because I'm a violinist and if I don't I end up getting injured. I need to cross train so that the muscles I use to play the violin are balanced out by other strong muscles..

That being said, I cut back mileage wise on road biking until goal. This winter/early spring has been SO rainy here in Oregon that I wouldn't bike anyway, but I burn about 1,000-1,3000 calories when I bike 20-30 miles and the 5 & 1 is just is too few calories for that. The few days I have biked on Medifast I have done the 4 & 2 sheerly out of necessity-I need to be able to walk and talk to get through my day.

I love to exercise and I love the way it makes me feel, but I haven't done much other than 30 minutes on the elliptical or stationary bike + 15 minutes of weights since I started Medifast in August..

I used to believe that I had to exercise to lose weight. After exercising like a maniac from 1992-2010 and never, ever getting anywhere close to goal, I no longer believe that...

Hey, does anyone know anything about the appetite suppressant shakes? I tried one last night and I felt like it worked (tasted like crap though) and I'm unsure why it'd work more than a regular shake. And the 55 and 70 shakes-is the difference the amount of protein?..

, I admire your strength in managing your BPD! Doing MF, working out AND managing BPD? Wow! I'm a clinical social worker who worked in the mental health field for years prior to kiddos, plus I have a BIL with severe, unmanaged BPD who basically tanked his life by refusing to acknowledge and deal with his illness. So, I've seen both sides up close and I have a bit of a clue about how much strength it takes to do what you are doing. Kudos to you both!.


...after listening to my DH talk about his Cross Fit workouts, I admit to being afraid of Cross Fit! Very afraid!.

I'm trying to psych myself up for it, but I really am a chicken when it comes to actually working out in a gym. I'll do it at home and I'm a pretty active person with four little special needs kiddos running around my house, but a gym? Duck and cover....


...what is a Body Bugg? That sounds really interesting. I'm interested in finding out what I'm burning during daily activities with my kids...would this help?.

Morning. Sassy - Don't know about the appetite suppressant shakes, but the difference between the 55's and 70's shakes is more protein and about 10 calories..

Went and got my labs done. They had a beast of a time finding a vein this morning. She said it was because I was fasting <shrug> I have pretty crappy veins anyway. Just now getting my coffee. I also have the grandaddy of all headaches and am EXTREMELY glad I took today off. I have a bouquet c*** to make today and a possibly sick puppy to take to the vet..

Congratulations, tdk! Great 50 lbs loss(=10=60)..

I am not the only Mom to have given birth to an extreme athlete..

DD1 turns 35 today. I am so glad that damn labor inducer that got stuck in the IV and was then doubled (ofcouse, at DH's hopsital!) is a memory. But I cewrtainly do remeber delivering that tall (22") and skinny 6lbs13oz girl with hige hands and feet just like Mommy! I've always joked that she looked like a rubber chicken. Apgar test: she grabbed the MD's finger and pulled herself up to a standing potition. OMG! We were so stupid and didn't realize the long term implications of that, like Heli-skiing with her DH on their honeymoon in Canada. HotDog and now has a pup of her own.

Heavenly Father, give me strenghth for these bessleings I've received. Amen..

Didn't mean to offer such a long, birthday rant about my DD!, who I love so much. Just couldn't help it! DD1 just finished 2 12 hr sifts at the hospital, so I hope thery're getting dumped on in Truckee CA right now. Best kind of "icing." Weather channel just said 12" of fresh powder! I'm happy. In bed. Big headache. and pndering what any sensible movement might entail today..

DH is getting the flu and works this weekend before a conference this coming week. Hope he can do it, because he will anyway. 64 thinks he's 25..

Can I just say that today is not my best day? This week has only brought a .5lb loss so far, which is really discouraging. Not really normal for me, even before TOM, so this is a sad surprise. Usually I do around 2.5-3 lbs. I should have expected this as I'm around 3/4 of the way to goal, but it still stinks! I had a dream last night that I overdid condiments and ate sludge...woke up convinced it was real and got pretty mad at myself! DH reminded me that I've been 100% OP and doing great, then I felt silly..

It's hard to have a stinky weight loss week and then having a bad home schooling week on top of it! I am currently sitting at the kitchen table watching my DS9 sit and hide under a blanket in his chair instead of doing his grammar. This has been going on all week and it is ticking me off! Unless I sit here and watch him, nothing gets done. It doesn't help that he is wicked smart and totally capable and that I really need to be sitting in the OTHER room helping the twins, who are somewhat behind in school due to their disabilities. So, I am mad at DS9 and feeling guilty about the twins...grrr. Normally, home school is a real blessing for us but I think we all must have spring fever!.

OK, DH just got home from Cross Fit (he home offices!) and I kicked DS9 out to DH's office to work. I feel much better now!.

DH can metaphorically kick his little behind for a while!..

Sorry you are there with me, Sassy! Thankfully, tomorrow is not only a new day but is also SATURDAY! Yeah, school's out! I'm tempted to let them all have an early spring break but know if I do that, they'll just further resist getting back to work the next week. Weekend breaks are all they can sneak out of me just yet! Whenever they whine about schoolwork on a sunny day, I remind them of the fact that they can control their own schedule and working hard in the morning results in the afternoon off!.

That, or remind them that failing to finish the school year results in working through the summer!..

The 70 shakes have more protein and are meant for men but I don't think that precludes women from using them. I can only drink the RTD shakes b/c they have no lactose..


My youngest has today off b/c it's the end of the quarter and my oldest has next Friday off and we have never been so ready for these days off, it's in the air. My youngest goes to year round school (which I LOVE!!!) so his 3 week spring break starts on April 4 and end on april 25th. Oldest has to wait until the 18th of april for his break...

Sassy, I've always preferred the 70 shakes. They're just "meatier" to me. It could all just be in my head since I know there's a tad more protein..

Carolyn, I bought my Body Bugg used about a month ago from another TLer. It has a cool display module that you can also wear as a wristwatch. I activated it through an online reseller for much less than Apex. I'm a little bit of a gadget geek myself and always looking for new ways to analyze myself!.

I have to say, I love being able to see how many calories I've burned so far at any given time. As far as seeing how much I've burned during any specified time, it measures from midnight to midnight, so I have to wait until the next day. But that stops me from obsessing over it. I love this little thing and I think it's going to really help me crack the code..

I've been busy as a little bee, hawking my wares to my daughter's school's Family Fun Night next week. I've been able to connect with the right people to donate a pair of my earrings in school colors as a door prize giveaway!..

You can see them as you burn them, either on the display or if you plug it into your computer. But to see a whole day and look at when you had spikes and dips, that has to happen after midnight. There's a whole thread on the subject and the people there are much more experienced with this thing than I am. I may be missing something big here...

Hi everybody! <<Waving enthusiastically>> (I'm SO not as clever as MT with her cute waving little smile-man!).

So much has already been posted! (That Taekwondo pic was awesome!).

A hearty "Welcome to the group", kris17 and Jennifer (Twinmom)!.

Cara: *Happy Dance* for being more than halfway! Feels good, right?.

I thought they would be able to dig up my broken septic system today, but NO. The ground is still too "squishy". Made an appt. for Monday, since there is no rain in the forecast..

The hard part is getting through another weekend without taxing the system to the point of backup again (perish the thought). Just got the bill for the professional cleanup. It's almost $4,000.00. Fortunately, I paid our deductible and the rest gets paid by my insurance..

Now, to get the plumbing work done...because that bill's on us...and I'd love to know what it is going to be! They can't estimate until they see what the problem is (exactly). I'm in limbo!.

Tomorrow is my weigh day, so...I'm hoping that will be good anyway...

Instead of moping around about my crappola week I decided to take measurements. I'm wearing size 12 pants and finally had to give my size 14s to Goodwill, so I thought it'd be a good time to measure. In the last 3 months I've:.

Upper arms-lost 2 inches.

Waist-lost 3 inches.

Penny: I have been sent here by a Bugg friend to clarify something. You will love this. You can totally see how much you burned from a certain time to a certain time. It is so fun. There is a drop down menu to choose the times you want to look at. Let me know if you can't find it.

Penny, I will PM you how to look at different times of the day. I do it all the time. I also will upload my info multiple times during the day for fun. For example, you can upload and see what you did from midnight to 1pm and then do it again at 2pm. It just keeps adding it onto original numbers...

SLW, right, but you can't look at that until the next day (after midnight) and after you do your download, right? I've seen that on the website, but I think the issue was not being able to see it instantly. I could be wrong, though! I agree that's a cool feature! I can absolutely see the times when I'm chasing my kid around, making a mad dash through the supermarket after work, etc.! Where does it say how long I've slept? I thought someone once mentioned that it calculates that as well. Thanks!..

I need this for my DH. He is on this cycle where he will not lose for a few days and then he drops two pounds in a night. The whole time he isn't losing weight he complains..

I have to remind him that he has lost 25 pounds in four weeks. GIVE ME A BREAK!..

Penny: No, I can upload right now what I have done since midnight last night. I do it often. Plus, you can see exactly what you did from 9am to 10am if you want by using the drop down and choosing those times. Really it is a very clever Bugg..

The sleep thing is only on the Body Fit like the Biggest Losers wear. Made by Bodymedia like our Buggs, but slightly different...

Ahhhhh. I love my little Bugg. And I still giggle at the thought that I'm now keeping company with Buggers!.

I'm getting ready to blow this pop stand, kids. We've got 60 degrees and sunny, which is pretty stinkin' nice for upstate NY in March. Especially after the ungodly amount of snow we got in January amnd February. I am off to score some clear-top jewelry boxes (I hope) and take the little one with me for a manicure. She's so excited because I said yes to pink with blue polka dots! Oh, to be 7 again. DH said it will look like Easter eggs!.

It's 78 here in Texas and I just went running around the neighborhood. Have a great run! I just did week 2 day 2 of couch to 5K. Beth, I know you told me to do week 1 again, but I had started week 2 already! I think I will possibly repeat week 2 though. We'll see!..

I ran for 11 years, some weeks doing 50-60 miles. Even in the winter with zero degrees and snow on the ground. Get those endorphins up and nothing can stop you ! But.....for quite a few months at first I had to push myself out the door but once I got past that first mile it was wonderful. Don't overdo it speed wise and extend the distance a little at a time..

Just set your mind to it like you have Medifast and you can do it !..

I'm so envious of you runners! I was just getting decent at running when I was sidelined by surgery and then my back got worse and now all I can handle is a walk..

Wow, when I got free of work today, it was 80 degrees out, in MD, in March! I stopped and got some new t-shirts because I'm replacing all my ratty clothes, went home, and took the dog for a stroll. He's slow, so we never walk quickly. If I want to walk fast, I have to go without him! On the walk, I met a neighbor I've never met before in the 3 yrs we've been here (with houses so far apart, you can go months without even seeing anyone) and he was quite nice, and had actually been looking for me to give me some chicken feed. I love the country..

When I got back, the capris I'm wearing were hanging like a saggy diaper off my butt. This is a huge NSV for me, because these were my biggest capris and I couldn't even get them over my thighs before starting medifast. I know I don't have a lot to lose, but when you're super petite, or close to goal, each pound lost can really change your shape. I'm seeing the changes already!.

For anyone who knows from my blogs that I've been a mess lately, I did significantly better today. I think just having a plan is helping my spirits...

I used to be a runner too, Zoe. LOVED it. But now at my age, with bad hip, definitely can't do that anymore. I'm so glad to hear you are doing better now..

Anna, there was something I wanted to tell you and it's on the tip of my tongue...but I can't grasp it. Sorry..

Now I know how my daughter feels. She was hit by a pickup truck (she was a pedestrian crossing the street in the crosswalk at the correct time...but he was turning left on a green light and was dodging oncoming traffic so he didn't see her). This happened 3 years + ago and the whole experience has put us through h*ll but honestly she should have died..

We are so grateful she is still with us...however, the head injury has left her with almost NO short term memory. So my frustration with not remembering what I wanted to say is a small token of what my daughter (24 yrs old) goes through on a daily basis..

If I think of it, I'll probably pm ya...

Almost 80 here in the mountains today, too, Anna! We worked in the yard...pulled weeds, spread bark mulch, spread about 3 tons of gravel on the driveway (DH did most of that!). Now the kids plus one (a sleepover) are all jumping on the trampoline and screaming their heads off! Beautiful day. Even the dog is back here panting and enjoying herself!..

Beautiful day here in Virginia, too. I'm up in the mountains now at my parents' house. The university where I am taking the class is nearer to them than to me so I am staying here for the weekend. Midterm tomorrow. Must go study! And avoid the huge colander of pasta sitting on the counter... 100% works! 110% works! I keep saying that in my head...

Got back from the vet and the pup is going to be fine. She was diagnosed with clostridium which can be contracted from bird baths, bird feeders, stagnant water and can be toxic. Dr said we got her in early so she should see improvement by tomorrow. Now we just have to giver her pills for the next 10 days. Oh Joy! Headache isn't letting go, so I'll hit the migraine meds tonight. Still a bit more baking to do before I can call my masterpiece done. Going to be a long night...
