My 1st question is: Anyone tried Nutrisystem or weight watchers? need to lose 80 lbs for health reasons.? Many thanks for any comment. Another question... My wife and I were discussing our overall Nutrisystem experience thus far and were amazed at the realization that we haven't had fast food since about 9/1! And during that time have only gone out to eat 3 times, and those three restaurant visits were well planned with our diets in mind. The way we figure it, our Nutrisystem has been paid for simply by not eating out 10 times per month, which was about our average. And staying away from fast food has been great!!..

Weeky dinner out is a tradition for us so it is not something I want to avoid. It's a family outing that we all enjoy. I have found, though, that most resturants offer food that is acceptable, or better that what I used to order. The weekly eating out has not deflected me from the plan as I get right back to the Nutrisystem food the other six days...

Eating was very much a tradition in our family as well. We replaced it with family biking, hiking, beach walking etc and home packed picnic lunches. Plus we still go to the movies and get out of the house plenty. I'm sure that once my wife and I both reach goal weight and maintain for several months that we'll likely start to go out to eat once or twice per month, but I'm really hoping to have kicked the fast food habit for good!..

Remember, if you go out to eat, and you see nothing, just ask. we went to Friendly's - the kids love the place. there is nothing at all there to eat on NS. They have a salad with fried chicken pieces on it. I asked them to make the salad without the chicken...and they made it nice too really - much bigger than the typical Friendly's fare - so remember, just ask! They had low-cal dressing too....

And I checked out those McDonalds salads - forget's filled with croutons and other non-free foods. and the chicken might as well be thrown out (even if baked)- no salad dressing is low-fat.....

Eating (and drinking) is ingrained in everything we do here - not sure how it happened. we are working our way out of it...

GREAT post, Rads! I'm not good at making good choices when dining out and made the commitment to NOT do it while in my active loss phase. Just one element of the cost to count when making the decision to hop on this train, IMO. Like you said, the cost savings alone can cover the cost of NS. I try to explain that to others who are balking due to the cost factor, but most don't realize that they fritter away $10-$20 a time often enough to cover the $300 BBB..

My wife and I are on Nutrisystem and justified the $600+ dollars easily. We used to drop $50 - $80 every time we went to dinner - which was at least 2x a week. I don't want to even talk about my $7-8 a day sub or burrito lunch ... or how much $$ I we were spending on beer and wine!..

Sean - My wife and I are on the same track. I have not done the math (I get enough of that at the office) but I know it's a breakeven for us if not cheaper..

My local McDonalds sent my wife a sympathy card because they thought I had passed!.

I do like to go out and get a steak. We have a Texas Roadhouse in our town and I like to go there and get a small steak (6 oz) with double vegetables and a side salad. I just throw away the croutons...

Oh yea, wife and I spent at least $20/night on wine and/or beer...cut that out and it's easily $600..
