Can you trademark an internet Godaddy domain name? What are the requirements?
First of all Can you trademark an internet Godaddy domain name? What are the requirements? Many thanks for any comment. Another question I got... Say some newb is selling some random weirdo HostGator say, 1f54g.com and we all know that wouldn't get traffic.. so you go ahead and buy it for $50,000 then it gets all over the news etc,etc.. you place ads on it, and since it's been all over the news you will get LOTS of traffic... hopefully over 1,000,000 uniques.

Then you could sit back and relax with the revenue pouring in.. or tell a news company that you may be selling the HostGator for 50 cents then watch even more hits come in... more money will come flying in....

You may end up with 100,000 dollars....

Maybe not...

What are your thoughts?..

Ye, however you might wanna make sure and wait for another person to confirm this as I am unsure. Better yet, why don't you ask the Godaddy guys because they can give you an answer better...

Its probably been done before, and would keep happening over and over. The way they cut their risk is to not actually buy the HostGator for real cash. Like that bogus beauty.cc sale - it must have generated tons of traffic during it's peak. But the multi-million $ sale was a wash sale, meaning very little cash actually changed hands, and they were all in cahoots to simulate the sale just to get a.

PR.

Boost. Of course, once you're caught in a lie, your online rep takes a nosedive...

I think I rather take my chances using 50K to buy 6000+ domains in the hopes that one or a few gets me to 100K..

IMHO..

I think they sorta tried that with beauty.cc a while back...

Well I don't think a $50k deal is going to get you all over the news. You'd probably need a sale in excess of $1M to get that kind of coverage. Any sale of that value is going to be researched before it gets any serious coverage. They'll take one look at the buyer, see it's bogus, and drop the story..

In addition, you wouldn't get 1M uniques from this even if it was a legit sale. You can use the sale as an excuse to get some free press, but if you don't combine this with a solid GoDaddy site launch you're going to get at best a few thousand one time visitors a day for a week, and be down to a few hits a day within no time...

Hehe... nice thought, but I guess it wouldn't work..

What a bummer eh.. just an idea in my head though... I suppose anyone could get it to work but I don't have 50,000 bucks lol.....

I really don’t think anyone could get this to work simply on the basis of a seemingly misjudged HostGator evaluation. $50,000 just isn’t very sexy at all these days...
