Quick question: Does anyone have a website through iPage.com? Thanks in advance for any comment. My other question... Hello everyone,.

I am somewhat new to all of this stuff so please take that into consideration when helping. I am totally perplexed. Everything is installed and some of the products are in but it seems like it is very slow to browse around or even when you enter the iPage site initially. I have read most of the pertinent information on speeding up osCommerce and in my opinion have done everything possible. I have turned off "Show Category Counts", Turned on "GZip" at level 1 and indexed all of the tables in MySQL to the best of my ability. After doing all of this, the parse really dropped from an average of 30 - 40 sec down to about 5 sec.

Once the page decides to load it is very fast. The problem is when you initially enter the site, and also every darn link you click on has a lag of about 10 sec before it goes to the next page. This is for all of the products, shipping info, contact us, anything at all. It is starting to become quite frustrating. Now my parse times are even slower.

Someone please help. This is.

My catalog.

If you are going to click there please not the amount of time that it takes to open. Thank you very much...

You betcha! although you might wanna make sure and wait for someone else to confirm it as I am on the fence. Better yet, why don't you call the iPage guys because they can answer your iPage question better...

This is hosted by bellsouth on a UNIX server..

Try loading a plain html page to your server and see if it takes just as long to start loading...

No it does not. I have plain html at the root..

That part of the iPage site work super fast it's the osCommerce that is slow...

I suggest looking at the server access and error logs, as well as turning on sql logging in the admin panel and see what is going on. if you have root access to the server, you can type in 'top' to see what processes are running and which ones are taking things up. also, get on the phone with bellsouth tech support, they can possibly help you as they have access to other parts of the server which we can not see...

Follow mibbles advice....

(beat me to it).

You will need to know what your host has setup for you..

The DBs look fine. I was up all night indexing it to work faster. You see, before the pages used to load slow even after the page started loading. Now that I have indexed the DBs you will notice that the page takes just as long to open but when it does the information is displayed immediatlly in contrast to before where the page took just as long to load initially and then even longer to display the information. Know what I mean?..

By the way, I am using the most basic form of osCommerce in the sense that I have not altered the code much. The only thing I have added in the automatic small pictures and the fed-ex module..

Yeah, I know what you mean. i'm with john on this one, get on the horn with bellsouth and let them know what is going on. be sure that you are clear about the fact that you are NOT looking for support on OSC, but rather looking at a slow connect to the DB..

If they think you are looking for OSC support, they'll probably hang up on you. the phoe tech should be able to read the logs and watch the processes. they are the ones that need to make the fix, it looks like you have done all you can..

Ok, I'm on the horn with Bellsouth now. I will get back to you as soon after Round 3. You know it's always a battle with those people. Thanks a lot...

Just got off the phone with Bellsouth. Must go rest now..... Man I can not belive it. They are so reluctant to offer any kind of help. Anyway, the guy on the phone told me that there may be a problem loading php on their end and that he was going o further investigate. He will call me back...

HA! The saga continues.....

Ok, Bellsouth alegedly ran their own code on the server and everything is fine. They are now saying that it is my code. Please help.....

Someone please help. I can not seem to get a grasp on this. It seems like I've tried everything. Could someone please tell me how I should index the tables in the database? Or maybe any other suggestion. I'm open to anything at this point..

Any solution to this yet? I am also having performance issues. Takes 5-6 seconds before anything happens when hitting the /catalog/ page. Im thinking that it's likely the mysql, but I'm not sure. How did you guys config the mysql settings on the install?.

Jeff..

For me looks very fast.

Tested on 06.00 Am.

Try to disable cache in oscommerce.

If you have only 1 inten in this box Languages.

Currencies try to deactivate then..

WOW!! 19 seconds!! if I was a customer, i'd be gone long before that..

For some reason, I don't think this is an OSC issue. seems to me like it may be a server issue. are you iPage hosting this yourself or is somebody else?..
