Ye, although you might want to make sure and wait for another person here to confirm my answer as I am on the fence. Better yet, why don't you ask the iPage guys because they can assist you better...
How is your progress coming on the multi-newsletter types project? I'm very interested. I've just gotten to the place where I've decided to do the same thing..
Is there a possibility you could give me a rundown on the "what's and How's" of your accomplishments? I wish to do this in order to steer clear of the "notifications" mod..
Series product pages.
As well as.
Individual product pages.
, and only want the series pages to show the "notify" box. I just don't know how to do it, and it seems like it would be less confusing to just be able to plug in a link to a new newsletter type (even though I don't know how to do that either...yet.;-).
Any help will be gratefully received..
Oh, and anyone else out there feel free to jump right in if you've got good instruction on this, too..
I sure would't want you to feel left out;-).
I am making good progress on this mod..
I have the user side nutted out and working. I can add new newsletter types, and a user can subscribe to them at will..
I am in the middle of the huge admin changes..
In part there is a change to the customer table, to change the customers_newsletter field to be able to have a string of numbers, representing the various newsletter modules..
It is taking a fraction longer than expected, as I am getting the following features happening;.
- add/change/delete newsletter modules, and change newsletter module description text (completed).
- ability to activate/deactivate newsletter modules (final testing).
- ability to list subscribers to each respective newsletter (in progress).
- ability have auto unsubscribe to newsletters (where a user clicks an email link, and it deactivates them from the newsletter) - (to be done).
- ability to display list of users who have unsubscribed (in progress).
- ability to create newsletters in the admin page rather than editing a xxx.php file. ie, at the moment if you want to change the formatting and what records to include in a newsletter, you need to code this in a xxx.php fil, I am working on a way to have a prefix text, items listing code box, and completion text, page done from the admin area - hard to describe, but when you see, you will understand. This will be in version 2....
I am hoping to add a contribution in a couple of days, with the basic functions working..
Hope this answers your question,.
OK, thought an update is in order.....
Was taken away from this work for a while, and the testing is taking a little bit of time. I am not the best coder (a hack really), but I hope it functions when it is created into a contribution!!!.
I have completed the activate/deactivate newsletter modules..
I have completed the list of subscribers to each newsletter module, but need to finish the ability to unsubscribe/subscribe a user manually on this page..
Need to create a function which lists all users who have unsubscribed from all newsletters..
Have got the basics of unsubscribe automatically using an email working using an autoforwarder but have a couple of buggy issues to iron out..
Have created the basics of newsletter config settings..
Need to work on the actual creating of a newsletter, this I am starting in the next day..
I have written most of the changes documents (for what I have done up to now), and have tested this..
This is my first contribution, and I want to make it good before I submit..
A few more days, I will have the basics packaged up, which may include all parts including the automail/unsubscribe functionality - no promise..

Ahoy there Vaughnn ~.
Sorry I haven't responded sooner - just no time..
Glad to hear of your progress. Keep on hacking away;-).
I'd offer to assist if I could, but I'm like the proverbial bull in a China shop. I'm getting better at it, but still a wee bit clumsy;-j.
The only addition I might recommend would be the ability to place [firstname] [email] and [IP] tags directly from admin. Probably easier said than done..
I commend you on your tenacious spirit and encourage you onward..
This contribute sounds perfect for what I'm looking to do!.
Has it been completed yet?.
Is there anything that I can do to help?.
I have temporarily put this project on the back burner, as I needed to complete an application that makes it easier for me to handle multiple suppliers with thousands of items, and different costs for similar items..
My shop costs needed some control, so I have half way written a VB application that lets me admin my products and categories in a fraction of the time..
I am happy to post some of the newsletter code I have done till now..
Please let me know if you would like me to do this..
Your new project sounds just as cool as the one it's pushed onto the back burner. It sounds like your supplier situation is very similar to mine..
I would be grateful for any code that you have time to post from your newsletter contribution..
That sounds like a wicked-cool app that your building, too. I manage a couple of stores, and they all have thousands of items. The time that I could save if I had something like that.... man. Let me know if you are ever thinking of selling (or otherwise releasing) copies..
Thanks for your help, you have some awesome ideas!..
Thanks for your comments..
I will look at my newsletter mods to date, and put it in a new contribution as partly completed, so if you can you can make changes..
The user stuff was pretty much finished, the main part not finished was the creating of newsletters in the new module..
I have made a lot of progress on my backend application, and can create some screen dumps of some of the screens if you like..
For some reason the forum software didn't alert me to the last round of this thread..
I'd be interested in seeing the code and screendumps you've created so far, too..
Your newer project also sounds pretty handy..
Onward and upward!.
I have looked at the Newsletter, and find there are only two in the base install of Osc, the General Newsletter, and the Product Notifications..
How would I create more Newsletter types?.
Has anybody already done this?.
I have a iPage site which sells IT equipment in Australia, and would like to have the two standard Newsletter types, but also the ability to add newsletters, specifically notifying clients on general IT News, Virus Notices, etc, all that clients can subscribe and unsubscribe from..
Any help would be fantastic....
I have started looking at making the changes for multiple newsletter types..
I have made the changes on the user side, able to display multiple newsletters, use the checkbox to select and deselect newsletters..
The hard task now is the admin side, including listing (add, delete edit) newsletters, and modifications to the current newsletter admin section (if required)..
Hope to upload the tested changed next week..
