Free iPage web hosting for a school project?

Question I have... Free iPage web hosting for a school project? Thanks in advance for any response. 2nd question I got is.. I recently have finished this iPage site through the use of java and html and was wondering if I could get someone to take a look at it for me. I need 2 problems solved: First I need to center the entire iPage website instead of it being left aligned as it is now and secondly I am consistantly going over my web hosts bandwidth limit because every button you hit reloads the whole page and changes just the middle, this results in it reloading the sounds images etc to much. I was thinking of making the middle where the changes actually occur a different frame? Any thoughts on how to do this given my could would be very helpful.

And if so where is a good forum to get such questions answered. Thx a lot..

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the answer. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I got an decent answer. You should email the people at iPage as they probably know..

You used dreamweaver to create your page. Cant you just highlight the contents and click on a menu item to center?.

As for your bandwidth....

1. You can use frames or iframes considering you want to reload only part of your layout each time..

2. WAV is a very large file type. Could you find a nice small MID instead? That is probably your biggest loading part. You have a big bunch of WAV loading on this spot....

<EMBED NAME='CS1044963232453' SRC='smoke.wav' LOOP=false.

AUTOSTART=false MASTERSOUND HIDDEN=true WIDTH=0 HEIGHT=0></EMBED>.

<EMBED NAME='CS1044963232452' SRC='glock.wav' LOOP=false.

AUTOSTART=false MASTERSOUND HIDDEN=true WIDTH=0 HEIGHT=0></EMBED>.

<EMBED NAME='CS1044963232451' SRC='defuse.wav' LOOP=false.

AUTOSTART=false MASTERSOUND HIDDEN=true WIDTH=0 HEIGHT=0></EMBED>.

<EMBED NAME='CS1044963232450' SRC='flash.wav' LOOP=false.

AUTOSTART=false MASTERSOUND HIDDEN=true WIDTH=0 HEIGHT=0></EMBED>.

<EMBED NAME='CS1044963232454' SRC='knife.wav' LOOP=false.

AUTOSTART=false MASTERSOUND HIDDEN=true WIDTH=0 HEIGHT=0></EMBED>.

<EMBED NAME='CS1044963232455' SRC='c4.wav' LOOP=false.

AUTOSTART=false MASTERSOUND HIDDEN=true WIDTH=0 HEIGHT=0></EMBED>.

<EMBED NAME='CS1044963232456' SRC='deagle.wav' LOOP=false.

AUTOSTART=false MASTERSOUND HIDDEN=true WIDTH=0 HEIGHT=0></EMBED>.

When I do the mouseovers, it starts my RealPlayer to play the sound externally instead of on the page itself. That may be just part of my settings though...

Sorry I shouldn't have told you to use center tags as they are now deprecated, it's now replaced with css centering, have a look.

Thx guys for all the replies. I am currently working on trying to get the middle section to be a frame. I have it set up so far so good but I am having trouble getting my buttons to point to target the frame which I named frame_name="middle". Here is the line for my java button but as of right now it just opens the page ina whole new window.

<div id="Layer10" style="position:absolute; left:11px; top:101px; width:40px; height:12px; z-index:36"><a href="test.html" target="middle" onMouseOut="MM_swapImgRestore()" onMouseOver="MM_swapImage('Image5','','images/button2 test2.jpg',1); MM_controlSound('play','document.CS1044963232453','smoke.wav')"><img name="Image5" border="0" src="images/button1 test2.jpg" width="89" height="31"></a></div>.

Thx for any help guys. P.S. Nice to see a forum that does not mind helping people new to the web...

You can't center anyhting if you tell it to load in a certain spot..

<div id="Layer13" style="position:absolute; left:10px; top:13px; width:772px; height:1032px; z-index:39">.

Get rid of all that and do this.

<div align="center">..

Frame_name="middle".

It is not that, try this.

Name="middle".

Then use.

Target="middle"..

Comment #6

I meant that I named the frame "middle in the frame properties and I tried target="middle" in my code for the button. Is it in the wrong place or something?.

<div id="Layer10" style="position:absolute; left:11px; top:101px; width:40px; height:12px; z-index:36"><a href="test.html" target="middle" onMouseOut="MM_swapImgRestore()" onMouseOver="MM_swapImage('Image5','','images/button2 test2.jpg',1); MM_controlSound('play','document.CS1044963232453','smoke.wav')"><img name="Image5" border="0" src="images/button1 test2.jpg" width="89" height="31"></a></div>.

THx.

NM you were right I see now what you meant. it Works thx man..

Comment #8

Hey scoutt I tried removing the <div id="Layer13" style="position:absolute; left:10px; top:13px; width:772px; height:1032px; z-index:39"> form the top of my page and replacing it with <div align="center">. But it still just stays left aligned in the browser. Any other thoughts or did I miss something or maybe I have to do it other places too?.

Thx all you guys for the help..

Comment #9

Man you already exceeeded your bandwidth. so I can't see your page...

Comment #10

Oh man sorry scoutt. I fixed the page with frames today so those wav sound buttons will only load once now instead of everytime. The bandwidth should be greatly reduced tommorrow. If you could drop by and check it out then I would soo appreciate it. www21.brinkster.com/vtoclan..

Once again man thx for your time.

Comment #11

Hmmm my bandwidth is still skyrocketing.

Could it be more my ASP forum board than the site? If it is the iPage site though would taking out the 7 wav. files make that much of a difference. I get approximately 16.7 MB per day of bandwidth. As stated above I now only load the wavs on the initial page opening and not every page because I used the frames in the middle. By the way the frames link above was good. Thank you for that.

, I just dont want to lose the wvs if the forum is going to run me over my limit anyway..

Chris..

Comment #12

If you have a forum then yeah that just might be the culprit...

Comment #13

Any thoughts of where I could host an ASP forum board for free? I really like it cause it does not have any banners or pop ups and is easy to use. The more I look at the file size of the forum the more I think it might be the cause. Thx for your help scoutt. Wow a lot of posts, I see others have gotten around to bothering you like me. LOL..

Comment #14

Forums are notorious for guzzling bandwith, there are loads of remotely hosted forums and discussion boards etc, just take your.

Pick.

I downloaded you index page and it was over 200K!!! way too big!! start of compressing your banner, that was 50k alone. As a general rule your pages really shouldnt be more than 30k, ofcourse there are exceptions if you are running a graphics intense site, in which case you would make sure at least your index has a small file size..

Also at the bottom of your page you have a load of <P>& nbsp ;</P>.

Get rid of them..

Comment #15

Thx for the suggestions Leoo I am currently working on limiting the size. I know it is kinda big now but thx to you guys it is slowly coming down. Also Scoutt could you take a look at aligning the page in the center now I still should have bandwidth for the day. I also succeded in having another company host my forum boards so thx for the link above. Hopefully the forum move and the frames will keep my bandwidth low enough but if not then I will try some other stuff.

Thx everyone for your suggestions and help..

Well this is what I see,.

<body onLoad="MM_preloadImages('images/button2.jpg')".

Bgcolor="272727" text="0C0C0C" link="#000000".

Vlink="#000000" alink="#000000" leftmargin="0".

Topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0">.

<div id="Layer13" style="position:absolute; left:10px;.

Top:13px; width:772px; height:1032px; z-index:39">.

<table width="765" border="0" cellspacing="0".

Cellpadding="0" align="left" height="965">.

You still have the div telling it to align 13 from the top and left 10, it will never center if you have that..

Also take that align="left" out of the table. then do this.

<body onLoad="MM_preloadImages('images/button2.jpg')" bgcolor="272727" text="0C0C0C" link="#000000" vlink="#000000" alink="#000000" leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0">.

<div align="center">.

<table width="765" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" height="965">..
