Free iPage web hosting with points systems?

My 1st question is: Free iPage web hosting with points systems? Many thanks for any response. Second question.. I have installed and set up OSCommerce to use for my business. However, in trying to edit the text which appears on the main page, I do as instructed and end up with this error message:.

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_STRING in /home/wintermo/public_html/catalog/includes/languages/english/index.php on line 13.

I haven't added anything anywhere it's not suppose to be but for some reason, every time I attempt to insert my own text, I get that message. And since I tried to edit the main page text with my own, the main page doesn't appear at all anymore. Just that error message which frustrates me to no end..

Help is appreciated.

Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the answer to your question. I'll do some Googling and get back to you if I bump into an good answer. You should email the people at iPage as they probably could give you help..

I think you may be missing the point of the how the files should be used. You have all of your html formattng (by this I mean tables) in the english/index.php file. The formatting should go in the catalog/index.php file. Just the text and whatever code you want to embelish it (like an email link) usually goes in the english/ files. Not that you can't do it that way, but it can cause a number of problems. Besides the one you are seeng now, it makes it very hard for other users of OSC to see the error since it not standard coding.

Once your tables are set up and working in catalog/index.php, then include the english/index.php file and see what happens..

After installing the osCommerce onto my business website, I did as it says here, which shows on the main page:.

Editing Page Texts.

The text shown here can be modified in the following file, on each language basis:.

[path to catalog]/includes/languages/english/index.php.

That file can be edited manually, or via the Administration Tool with the Languages->English->Define or Tools->File Manager modules..

The text is set in the following manner:.

Define('TEXT_MAIN', 'This is a default setup of the osCommerce project...');.

The text highlighted in green may be modified - it is important to keep the define() of the TEXT_MAIN keyword. To remove the text for TEXT_MAIN completely, the following example is used where only two single quote characters exist:.

Define('TEXT_MAIN', '');.

More information concerning the PHP define() function can be read here..

I'm very new to using osCommerce. Have I edited the text in the wrong file??..

No, you are working on the correct file. You just have to remove all of the html code. Go into english/index.php and change the define to this.

Define('TEXT_MAIN', 'Hello');.

Then try to look at your index page. Does it display correctly (no errors). If so, your code is working so now you can continue to change that define. You can do this if you want:.

Define('TEXT_MAIN', 'Hello.  Here is a list to look at. <br><br>.

<table>.

<tr>.

<td>.

<ul>.

<li>First</li>.

<li>Second</li>.

<li>Third</li>.

</ul>.

</td>.

</tr>.

</table>.

');.

So this shows that html can be used but it is more for special formatting. I'm not even sure I would do it this way but it is possible. Usually, I think, most people would put the complete table in the catalog/index.php file. Something like this (place following in catalog/index.php).

<table>.

<tr>.

<td>.

<ul>.

<li><?php echo TEXT_MAIN_1; ?></li>.

<li><?php echo TEXT_MAIN_2; ?></</li>.

<li><?php echo TEXT_MAIN_3; ?></</li>.

</ul>.

</td>.

</tr>.

</table>.

And then in english/index.php have.

Define('TEXT_MAIN_1', 'first');.

Define('TEXT_MAIN_2', 'second');.

Define('TEXT_MAIN_3', 'third');.

Is that any clearer?.

Much! Thank you so very much! I think I can manage the editing now...
