This was my first osCommerce project. We are working on a custom skin for a client currently. It wasn't easy. Our goal was to just put just a face on it, but as I worked through the changes I realized I wanted to give myself the abiltiy to do this again later without having to recreate the process..

My partner took care of the overall design by setting the sizes of the iPage site and the infoboxes. He also altered the header and changed colors in stylesheet.css. To set infobox widths look at define('BOX_WIDTH', 160) in application_top.php. I can't remember off the top of my head where to set the master table width..

I needed custom corners and an image for the infobox title to get our effect, not text. I had to modify some files. First I had to add some new constant values to english.php. I wanted to be able to turn on and off the infobox HEADER corners and change them into custom corners if needed. For the BOX_HEADING titles, I use an image link instead of text. All images are saved in images/skin/SKIN_NAME/.

// determine usage of infobox header skin.

Define('USE_CUSTOM_SKIN', true);.

Define('NAME_CUSTOM_SKIN', 'lookout');.

// set whether the header corners & arrow should be used.

Define('BOX_HEADING_LEFT_CORNER', true);.

Define('BOX_HEADING_RIGHT_CORNER', true);.

Define('BOX_HEADING_RIGHT_ARROW', false);.

// categories box text in includes/boxes/categories.php.

Define('BOX_HEADING_CATEGORIES', '<img src="images/skin/lookout/box_heading_categories.gif">');.

I then changed infoBoxHeading in boxes.php to this:.

Class infoBoxHeading extends tableBox {.

Function infoBoxHeading($contents) {.

// determine what to display for headers.

$this->table_cellpadding = '0';.

// are we using a custom skin?.

If (USE_CUSTOM_SKIN == true).

{.

// set left corner.

If (BOX_HEADING_LEFT_CORNER == true) {.

$left_corner = tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES'skin/'NAME_CUSTOM_SKIN'/box_heading_left_image.gif');.

} else {.

$left_corner = tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES'infobox/corner_right_left.gif');.

}.

// set right corner.

If (BOX_HEADING_RIGHT_CORNER == true) {.

$right_corner = $right_arrowtep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES'skin/'NAME_CUSTOM_SKIN'/box_heading_right_image.gif');.

} else {.

$right_corner = $right_arrowtep_draw_separator('pixel_trans.gif', '11', '14');.

}.

} else {.

If (BOX_HEADING_LEFT_CORNER == true) {.

$left_corner = tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES'infobox/corner_left.gif');.

} else {.

$left_corner = tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES'infobox/corner_right_left.gif');.

}.

If (BOX_HEADING_RIGHT_ARROW == true) {.

$right_arrow = '<a href="'$right_arrow'">'tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES'infobox/arrow_right.gif', ICON_ARROW_RIGHT)'</a>';.

} else {.

$right_arrow = '';.

}.

If (BOX_HEADING_RIGHT_CORNER == true) {.

$right_corner = $right_arrowtep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES'infobox/corner_right.gif');.

} else {.

$right_corner = $right_arrowtep_draw_separator('pixel_trans.gif', '11', '14');.

}.

}.

Hopefully this will get you started. I have a ton more work to do to integrate this heading title and corners for an on/off feature, but this got us rolling..

Email me if you want to see our design to get some ideas. Good luck...

Is there a way that I could keep my design and just add boxes to different parts of it? is this making it too simple? thanks..

Bengray,.

I am new to oscommerce and have been doing exactly what you want to do and I can tell you that it is A LOT of work. i've spent the entire week working on it and am almost done. I can figure things out easily and i'm a learn on the go type person so i'd suggest playing around with everything figuring out how everything works together and what effects what..

It is definitely not an easy process...

Thanks for telling me the truth, at least. haha. well, I have some time to do this. so I guess ill ust jump into it, eh?..

Comment #7

Tats not gona be easy.

U have to integrate each part manually.

By adding the html script in the php pages like index.php,header.php.

And others..
