Hey Niner! Good to see you on here still. Well, here's a quick run down. Back this winter I was around 290 and eating 5 small meals per day working out a few days a week. (30-40 min of cardio and lifting one muscle group per day)As of last week I managed to get down to 270 over the last few months. I just started back up on Nutrisystem yesterday and I am at 270. My goal is to lose 40 lbs and/or 2" off my waist by July 30th.
I have to lose 40 lbs or 2" off my waist by 30 Jul or they will be looking at separating me from service. Last time I did Nutrisystem I lost 23 lbs the first month. I am getting around 1400-1500 cals per day these last few days. I really want to amp up my cardio and core exercises but not sure where to get the extra calories. I know that after a while I will lose muscle when I hit that plateau and I dont want to do that..
Read the book "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" by Tom Venuto. He lays out a plan that includes all of the elements you're talking about here. I'm following his advice (it's surprisingly similar to NS, btw) and losing weight at a rate of about 1.5 to 2 pounds per week. I've only kind of measured my waist but even that cursory look shows I've lots significant inches. The combination should get you where you need to get in time...
40 lbs in 2 months is pretty aggressive. I'm not sure I can give you advice on how to accomplish that. My approach has been to wait till I hit a low-cal-induced stall, then add protein calories. Unfortunately, that kind of trial and error takes time and lots of experimentation. Everyone is so different, I'd hate to recommend something. For me, a high-cal, high-fat Muscle Milk did it.
The Body Bug device puportedly measures your calorie expendature so you can guage your calorie intake, but most using that are after more modest loss rates of 2lbs/week or so. You need a 6.6 loss/wk for goal. You'd have to run a 2,333 cal deficit every day without stalling your metabolism to get the 40 lbs in 60 days. Not sure how to do that while eating the full Nutrisystem program and without stalling your metabolism. I guess they do it on TV, so there must be a way..
Seriously, if I HAD to do what you want to do, I'd look at a Protein Sparing Fast approach. Been there, done that, and gained back faster then you can say Protein Sparing Fast. But... it does work if you can bear it. Be careful, it can be dangerous. Read everything you can, observe all the vitamin, water, and Dr.
If you can bear it. Basically, no food. All liquid protein. It's the same thing folks who get a gastric bypass eat, without the surgery..

Thanks for the info guys I appreciate this. I think I will stick to the Nutrisystem and keep my cardio around 30 minutes. I am confident that the 2" will come way before the 40 lbs. I was 270 wednesday night and I am down to 266 this morning. Drinking a gallon of water per day as well. Going to add some protien in my morning snack as well...
