Quick question: are you familiar with MultiVendor shipping as a contribution? It allows you to determine which shipping method is to be used based on a given product..
I am successfully using this at our iPage site (www.dropshipdirect.com). However, we're running into issues associated with allowing the system to support multiple zip code origins. By default, osComm is designed to support one zipcode origination. However, many companies require a more robust offering of zipcode sources. Naturally, being able to calculate based on zipcodes assigned to a given item allows for MUCH for accurate shipping costs..
Any ideas on how this might be done on a per-item basis?.

However to have a different zipcode assigned to each product and then to have the appropriate shipping modules use that specific zipcode would require a database change (either add zipcode to product table or a seperate product to zipcode table)..
Then the shipping modules would access the products zipcode for calculations..
This would be some fun programming. Pretty extensive coding might be required..
Sorry to dig this thread up, but I'm having this same problem. The difference is, I have put in the right zip code, and set all the weights appropriately. I'm still getting the problem. Any clues?..
From first post in this thread...Is this your problem?.
If it's this problem, then check with UPS to see if it covers your zip code and it's valid....
Otherwise let us know what problem is occuring..
I just am getting my store up and I made an account, no matter what I switch the zip code too I get this error:.

An error occured with the UPS shipping calculations..
I only have one product there can anyone try the shop and tell me what happens, or any suggestions..
The error is referring to your store zipcode not your customer's zip code..
In admin you need to set your zip code and other good stuff for shipping weights etc..
