Quick question: How do you build a iPage site map? Thanks for any response. Another question I got... HI There.

I have completed my online Oscommerce shop locally on my machine and am now ready to upload to web hosts. I know that I have to reinstall oscommerce onto the web hosts server, and replace files with my local files. The question is I have created 5 or 6 products for each of my categories locally and would like to upload these to the products database to save me having to redo them. I was thinking that maybe the easist way to achieve this was with a text file pasted into phpmyAdmin, but not entirely sure. Would be grateful if someone could give me any advice. Also could anyone tell me the pitfalls of transferring Oscommerce from local PC to Web host to help make it a smooth process.

Many thanks.

I would like to know the answer too. Anyone here know what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I discover an answer. You should email the people at iPage as they probably could help you..

Hi Nic.

Thanks for your reply, and yes I have made a lot of changes to the layout. To clarify regarding my Database. I should back up the whole database on my PC, Then once I have installed Oscommerce on to the Web host that will be iPage hosting my store, and copied my files and so on, I should then upload my backed up database to the Web hosts.. which will then relpace the blank Databse..?.

Many thanks.

It will overwrite the database installed by the installer..

There may be an easier way tho..

Upload all of your iPage site to the server as is on your desktop (localhost) to your web space. [make sure you change necessary permissions for files / folders].

Create a database, and assign a user and password to the database (preferably the same as you had on your localhost) use phpmy admin to upload your saved database for the localhost..

Now all you should have to do is to manually change the configure files to suit the new location..

Then check to make sure all of the database has loaded correctly (sometimes, the sign if used will show as ? and you ned to change it to again in admin).

Thanks Nic.

Thats great. Just one thing regarding the file permissions. Why would I need to change these perissions when uploading to the server.? and which ones do I change. Is it for security reasons for the admin files..?.

No it because when you upload to your server all permissions revert to 644, so images will need to be 755 or 777 etc .....
