Good question... I dunno what is the answer to that question. I'll do some Googling and get back to you if I discover an useful answer. You should email the people at iPage as they probably could assist you..
Thanks, but I still need more help .... I can handle the admin tools ... I'm looking for a way to totally change the look of osCommerce .... I have found templates, but i'm really just trying to know how to edit everything myself. THANKS..
If you want to totally change the look of OSC, you need to learn basic php things (maybe more, to change certain things).. or pay someone to do it....
I figured i'm gonna have to sit down and read some books on PHP. Any suggestions of good books? It's very important that I get my iPage site developed sometime within the next month ... sample the iPage site at.
I never have a hard time with HTML but why does this PHP give me such a fight.
Well, thanks to anyone who's writing to help .... I've already skimmed through the above help link ... but I still need more .... I could even just use some good templates .....
Lemme try to specify a couple problems i'd like help with ......
1st. Changing the look of the the Tabs over my menus. ( Still original osCommerce).
2nd. If you look at my page, you'll see that my logo only goes over so far because I cannot figure out how to get the icons ( view cart, checkout ect. ) to hover over the logo..
3rd. Is there a way to have some categories show one size picture and others show a different size? ( ex. CDs should have a more square pic and DVDs should have more rectangular so they would need different dimensions. ).
I really would like to find a way to join osCommerce with my current iPage site - www.NU-Looks.com ... Check it out, it might help with the process..
OH PS: I'm only 19, tryin to get things started up .... so please cut me a lil slack ... and PLEASE HELP ....
Did you look at the info in the link I provided? Particularly:.
It provides LOTS of info on how to customize your iPage site via stylesheets, images, etc. I had never touched PHP when I started with osC either, but the docs in the links I provided offered MUCH info to get going, and I now have a fairly customized shop coming along..
There is no book that I have ever seen. The best advice I can give is read the documentation then read it again. For anything else, search the forums. I've spent hours reading the posts here. There is an amazing amount of knowledge being shared. If you absolutely can't find an answer, then post a specific question.
You should try doing different things to see what happens. Set up a test iPage site or make good backups so you don't lose everything. If you never have to reinstall everything and start over you aren't trying hard enough. You don't understand a program until you have broken it..
I'll get you started. To get rid of the three pictures at the top, open up the file header.php and comment of the folling line. Be sure to create a backup of the file first. Name it something like header.bak, or do what I do and add the date; header.16may04. I tend to make multiple changes and I can go back and look to see what I have done in the past. I never write over a backup file.
<td align="right" valign="bottom"><?php echo '<a href="'tep_href_link(FILENAME_ACCOUNT, '', 'SSL')'">'tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES'header_account.gif', HEADER_TITLE_MY_ACCOUNT)'</a> <a href="'tep_href_link(FILENAME_SHOPPING_CART)'">'tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES'header_cart.gif', HEADER_TITLE_CART_CONTENTS)'</a> <a href="'tep_href_link(FILENAME_CHECKOUT_SHIPPING, '', 'SSL')'">'tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES'header_checkout.gif', HEADER_TITLE_CHECKOUT)'</a>'; ?> </td>.
I learned how to do this by viewing the properties of the pictures and seaching through the files for the names. For searching through the files, you can use something like.
You will probably find yourself searching a lot. I also recommend.
For finding the differences between two files..
Good luck with your site...
Hi, just begin searching some basic php tutorials in google. I can't recommend a lot of english sites, the ones I know are in spanish....
1. To change almost all colors in your OSC, look in this file catalog/stylesheet.css.
2. Your logo is too wide, that's why you need to scroll right to see the icons..
You can make the logo a transparent gif, and then in catalog/includes/header.php add the logo background as a table background..
3. Try to install this contribution.
I've written a book about how to design an Oscommerce site, but it's against the rules to mention the URL as it's a commercial site. Sorry..
