Quick question: I want to set up a website. What's the best reasonably priced web iPage hosting service? Thanks for any comment. Another question I got... We have noticed quite few customers have logged into.

Our store.

But made no purchases, we decided to send out a set e:mail. They have all replied and said when they went to check out they were always back to the log in page, even though they had just registered and automatically logged in. After a few attempts they left and bought somewhere else..

A few of us have tried the iPage site and it works OK, so it's either a random fault or they are doing something wrong. Has anyone else had this problem? if so, how do we fix it??????.

Please have a look and see if you get the same, you can go all the way through to payment then stop at Worldpay. Please give it a go and put test in your name..

Please HELP, losing sales big time and can't find whats wrong...

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some investigation and get back to you if I find an anything. You should email the people at iPage as they probably could give you an answer..

Talk to your host about adding P3P headers. You do not have these set, there are some bugs with some versions of internet explorer that can cause problems, depending on their privacy settings, it you don't have proper P3P headers..

This would also explain why it works for some and not others..

Dan.

P.S. Don't ask the board how to do this, ask your host. they need to do it...

I added my own P3P policy and headers and am hosted on a 3rd party server..

Also, the cookie set when a customer is browsing your iPage site is a session cookie...

If you added your own, they are not working:.

Results of P3P validation.

Target URI: http://www.leisurezone.co.uk/.

Step 1: /w3c/p3p.xml Validation.

URI: http://www.leisurezone.co.uk/w3c/p3p.xml.

Step 1-1: Access check.

/w3c/p3p.xml cannot be retrieved..

Warning: 404 Not Found [uri=http://www.leisurezone.co.uk/w3c/p3p.xml].

Step 2: HTTP Protocol Validation ( HTTP headers ).

HTTP headers have no P3P: header..

Step 3: HTML File Validation.

HTML document has no P3P compliant link tags..

Message: No valid P3P compliant <link> element..

Validator could not find valid policy reference file URI. Validation aborted.

There is no simple way around getting the headers right, your host should set this up for you..

Dan,.

That seems a simliar problem and issue as to one I've been having (see post titled 'logo problems' - any chance you could fill me in with any more detail on the P3P headers and also where/how they're checked?.

Thanks.

Michael..

Thanks for all the replies, but as I am VERY new to all of this, P3P headers is a bit out of my depth. I have no idea what they are or what they do..

I have sent a mail to my host for help..

Hopefully they can resolve this for us..

Is there anything we can do to help this or is it purely a iPage hosting issue?.

TIA.

Julian..

My host has given me links to P3P companies, specialising in this..

I don't fancy paying out more money. Can hosts normally provide this service?.

I'd do it myself if I knew what and where everything had to go...

I ran my iPage site through the W3 validator when I created the P3P and every page validated properly..

Results of P3P validation.

Target URI: http://www.mysite.com/.

Step 1: /w3c/p3p.xml Validation.

URI: http://www.mysite.com/w3c/p3p.xml.

Step 1-1: Access check.

/w3c/p3p.xml can be retrieved..

Message: The content type of /w3c/p3p.xml is text/xml..

Step 1-2: Syntax check.

/w3c/p3p.xml has no syntax errors..

Step 1-3: Policy URI check.

/w3c/p3p.xml has no warnings or errors..

Message: P3P policy indicated at line 4 can be accessed.

P3P policy for http://www.mysite.com/ is [http://www.mysite.com/w3c/p3p/policy.xml#policy1].

Step 2: HTTP Protocol Validation ( HTTP headers ).

HTTP headers are P3P compliant..

P3P:compact-purpose="NOI DSP COR OUR STP UNI", policyref="/w3c/p3p.xml".

Step 3: HTML File Validation.

HTML document is P3P compliant..

Message: HTML document has P3P compliant <link> element..

<link rel="P3Pv1" href="/w3c/p3p.xml">.

Step 4: Policy File Validation.

URI: http://www.mysite.com/w3c/p3p/policy.xml#policy1.

Step 4-1: Syntax check.

Policy file has no syntax errors..

Step 4-2: Vocabulary check.

Policy file has no vocabulary errors..

Step 4-3: Link check.

Policy file has no link errors..

Message: line 3: discuri attribute of <POLICY> element can be accessed..

Message: line 21: service attribute of <DISPUTES> element can be accessed..

Message: line 24: src attribute of <IMG> element can be accessed..

W3 contains a few links to P3P generators, one of which is free. The free one isn't perfect though you will likely need to make a few corrections once it is generated..
