Got a question... If you use iPage pro to make a website, is it compatible with google adsense? Hoping for any comment. Another quick question... I'm a total newbie to this and have been working my way through the various posts in the threads on SSL , but so far I havent found anything which seems to match my problem. My config files are fine (and iPage site redirects to https ok) but the padlock wont appear on the secure pages unless I change line 41 in the app_top file, where it tries to determine whether http or https is being used, it seems to return the same (blank) value for both. (Therefore the test will never return true, and therefore the script will always think it is using http.).

The change I made was to get rid of the variable read, and simply set the answer to always https..

But I dont know what the consequences of doing that are. It may cause problems for other things in the script. or it may just try to send everything via https..

My iPage hosting company are being no help at all, so any advice is gratefully received - thanks...

I would like to know the answer too. Anyone here know what is the answer to that question. I'll do some research and get back to you if I find an answer. You should email the people at iPage as they probably can help you..

So what have you got in application_top on line 41 now?.

OsC isn't recognizing the cue from the server that SSL is active..

I can tell from your HTML source on a secure page:.

<base href="http://www.your_site.com/">.

It should be:.

<base href="https://www.your_site.com/">.

This is "stock" osC code in application_top:.

// set the type of request (secure or not).

$request_type = (getenv('HTTPS') == 'on') ? 'SSL' : 'NONSSL';.

If you're one "1and1 hosting", this usually works:.

// set the type of request (secure or not).

$request_type = (getenv('HTTPS') == '1') ? 'SSL' : 'NONSSL';.

Another variation that works on most UNIX servers:.

// set the type of request (secure or not).

$request_type = (getenv('SERVER_PORT') == '443') ? 'SSL' : 'NONSSL';.

Currently it's.

// set the type of request (secure or not).

$request_type = (getenv('HTTPS') == 'ON') ? 'SSL' : 'NONSSL';.

// $request_type = 'SSL';.

But I have tried $request_type = (getenv('SERVER_PORT') == '443') ? 'SSL' : 'NONSSL'; and (getenv('HTTPS') == '1').

None of them have worked...

Copy the text in the CODE box below into a text editor (Notepad) on your PC:.

<?php.

Echo 'HTTP HOST: '"$HTTP_HOST";.

Echo '<br>Server Port: 'getenv('SERVER_PORT');.

Echo '<br>SSL Status: 'getenv('HTTPS');.

Echo '<br>Fowarded Server: 'getenv('HTTP_X_FORWARDED_SERVER');.

Echo '<br>Fowarded Host: 'getenv('HTTP_X_FORWARDED_HOST');.

Echo '<br>Fowarded By: 'getenv('HTTP_X_FORWARDED_BY');.

?>.

Save it as.

Myenv.php.

Upload it into your root folder on your site..

When you're done post again..

I'll access it with my browser and it should provide info to help solve your problem..

It's a harmless script, it just displays values of a few server variables...

What's the URL?.

If you don't want to post it you can send it to me in a PM..

Could be a lot of things, but without a URL anyone trying to help is just shooting in the dark....

Going HTTPS all the time is not a good idea...
