Of course! but... you might wanna make sure and wait for someone else here to confirm my answer as I am not sure. Better yet, why don't you ask the iPage guys because they can answer you better...
I already thought about using the model as the ID (you were right with the example)..
Just hoped there may be some alternative to it..
Thanks for the fast reply..
I wondered at first also and I am using it for the same function. The only time there would be conflict is if a product needed to have both a model /part number AND a catalogue ID..
It would probably be possible to create a duplicate field with the same functions as Product model and just call it Catalogue number (or whatever), but if you don't think you're going to need model numbers for anything else, it works fine...
We'll sit and think throughfully about whether we need them both or not. Currently, from what I saw from the paper-catalogue, there's a chance we'll need both..
If so, I'll write the update, document it, and will post it here probably as a update..
Hope next release of OSC will include any custom user fields that I wish.....
I don't have any other suggestions, but other questions.. is there a way to manipulate the Model input field so that it doesn't limit the number of characters? If my model is RedApple#123 - it is truncated to RedApple#1.
Is there a setting for this someplace? I am poking around to find it, if anyone knows please help!.
You need to edit the field specification in the database for products_model. Currently, it is varchar(12). You can change it up to varchar(255)..
Isn't it limited in the <input> field as well?.
I need to make the length longer, because when I use several languages, I am storing them all, and some languages are saved as ᨱ (for example), and it cuts the string after couple of chars.....
By the way, about adding a new field (such as the Serial number) I had, I used a guide that was previously downloaded here (don't remember exactly where or whose). I will put a link here, for all who needs it. Pretty easy, and works fine..
This products_model file where exactly do I find it? is it in phpmyadmin, my oscommerce files or do I edit both?.
P.S. - I'm using works for my spreadsheet, is there a way to find duplicate model numbers using a formula or something? I have several thousand products and am having this problem.....
Hello OSC Community!.
Before making the store go Live, we noticed that there isn't any custom field such as "Catalogue ID" or "Serial ID" for products, and it is a mendatory feature that we need..
I searched the forums, and couldn't find much about it, so I decided to post a question before I go and alter lot of files and the database and add this field manually..
The question is - is there such a feature already in the system (such as the custom fields - e.g. Color, Model, etc.) - with a Text input field? Or should I develop it, because I couldn't find such feature in the system....
Another issue - Auctions and Group Sales..
Auctions - is there any module for inside the store Auctions? Cause all that I found was Ebay Auctions..
Group Sales - didn't find anything. Is there anything?.
Thank you in advance,.
If it's a manually inputted ID number you need, such as CX100A (purely as an example) you can simply use the Product model field. As each product is created, it is given an automatically generated Product ID which identifies it's place in the database...
