Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the answer to that question. I'll do some research and get back to you if I bump into an good answer. You should email the people at iPage as they probably could give you help..
I'm not sure what i'm supposed to do to define the tables, since I don't know php and mySQL. I ran the script according to instructions and all the information I got is posted above..
Would it be easier to just upload ,htaccess and .htpasswd files there?..
Yes it would but you would still have to deal with this error by reverse coding, thus changing things back to how they were unless you made a backup prior to installing the contribution..
There have been a few people having issues with this contribution and many of them stem from the fact that the contribution is not the one they were after they were after admin access with levels however the one reputing to be the latest upgrade is in fact a different contribution and people really need to download and install from lower down on the list before the reputed upgrade, there are also references to other contributions within the contribution labeled as being admin access with levels...
I tried to install the one that said something like "the actual contribution" (i think 3rd one down)..
I did make a backup of entire catalog directory, but am not sure what the permissions were. Also, by running the .sql file in the contribution, did it make any changes to the SQL settings for the entire site? I assumed that's what .sql file is about..
Also, is there an easy (well, semi easy perhaps?? :-) ) way to fix this without going through the trouble of restoring the catalog file by file?.
The worst one seems to be the one reputing to be "the actual contribution" it is an entirely different contribution..
No not really unless you start from scratch you will have to reverse code thus uninstalling any changes that you made, this can be done through the instructions..
This is why you should allways backup your files and database sql prior to installing any contributions, a bit late now I know but for reference..
I will take it that this was the offending contribution.
Which is download 3776.
3 Apr 2004 - Actual Admin Access With Levels Author: Victor L.
This is the actual contribution last submitted by Eric Montgomery..
The contributions made by Mircea Teleleu and Christian Binkert were revisions for this contribution:.
I have reported this confusing contributions to the moderators along with the other two that are on that page that belong to another contribution. It has been looked into but nothing seems to have changed even though there was an agreement that they were seperate contributions..
I urge that you also bring this to the moderators attention as well..
I was also a little bit confused about this contribution first time when I download it. Basic ideea is the same but into the last versions many things has been changed. I put my contribution it into a new post, hope that helpCheck here:.
Have you informed the moderators that your contribution is in the wrong admin access with levels section..
Steve, more noise for nothing. We're not here to judge what and how some contributions are posted. No, I did not inform moderator 'couse my contribution are now in other post. As I told you, basic ideea for both contributions made by me,Victor and many other peoples is the same, it's applied in the same way with (yes you're right) major differencies into the last versions. So, let's talk about how can we all improve those contributions not where contributions are posted..
Mett this is obviously not.
As the initial poster to this thread has an issue stemming from a confusion of contributions. I think it is you that needs to look again with the Im all right jack.
Anyway this is not the general chit chat area and does not help resolve the original posters issue..
Have you managed to resolve the issue or are you still at the stage that you were at last post...
Ok, I understand your point of view. Sorry, but all I can do now to avoid confusions it's done. For all who have the same problem (as me at the begining) Admin access with levels contribution include (by now) two ways to protect admin area but...from now on, they are separated into two distinct contributions: the existing one remain in the same place:.
(latest post in 19 April 2004, latest version 1.6.0).
And new Multi admin with levels wich are posted here and include the latest modifications fot this contribution:.
I have protected my admin directory with .htaccess, and that's fine for now. Eventually i'll give another try to the admin access with levels contribution (but i'll try to install it on a fake store first...lol)..
If I can make a suggestion, I think it would be helpful if a contribution came with an installer (or at least a detailed readme file)..
Despite the hassle, i'm still appreciative of people who make free contributions to begin with :-)..
Strange, Admin Access With Levels v1.6 (last submitted by Eric Montgomery) now seems to have disappeared completely..
Requested contribution could not be found..
Looked through contributions page by page, searched by every keyword I could think of...nothing...
I tried to protect my admin directory with the Admin Acess With Levels 1.6.0_1 , ran the administrators.sql file and then copied the files to the correct directories on the server (as instructions said???). I'm getting the following error when running index.php in the admin directory:.
1146 - Table 'mydatabase.administrators' doesn't exist.
Select administrators_allowed_pages from administrators where administrators_id = ''.
If I can't fix this I have the catalog backed up and can restore it, but I still need some way to protect the admin directory..
Here's what the sql file said when I ran it:.
DROP TABLE IF EXISTS administrators;.
CREATE TABLE administrators (.
administrators_id int(11) DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL auto_increment,.
administrators_username varchar(20) NOT NULL,.
administrators_password varchar(40) NOT NULL,.
administrators_allowed_pages varchar(255) DEFAULT '*' NOT NULL,.
PRIMARY KEY (administrators_id).
INSERT INTO administrators VALUES ( '1', 'admin', '21232f297a57a5a743894a0e4a801fc3', '*');.
Can anyone help?..
Has the database tables been defined in the admin/includes/database_tables.php..
