Quick question: Looking for the best iPage hosting service no downtime? Hoping for any response. Second question of mine... So I download the OScommerce software, unzip to file and found no program to install just a file called install and no exe files in it? I ended buying photo express, I don’t know why. A window popped up and said to continue I needed it, so….24.95 later It still wont work..

How do I get started?.

Maybe there is no software just files to be wrote into my "front page 2000".

Can some one, hold my hand and explain to me how to get started?.

Thanks.

Signed confused.

PS maby this is covered somewhere and can be sent to the right reading material?..

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the right answer. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I got an useful answer. You should email the people at iPage as they probably could give you help..

Thanks for the help!.

So OSC is a program that only works when put online?.

Or can I design and practice on my desk top befor I launch?..

Like Peter said it's a scripting language, and the only way you could do what your saying on your computer is if you install a webserver on your desktop, so in fact tuning your desktop into a webserver!!.

But even then the only way you can view is through your browser! So really your better off just having some webspace online!..

Hi,.

Yes, you can do that, in fact, after you get the server and PHP/MySQL running, you will find it is good to try things on your desk top first, and of course, you don;t have to be connected to the internet to practice..

So I checked out my server I use Datarealm and I see they offer PHP and mysql,.

So I guess I need to sign up with them for this service and then append my present pages with a new file, under _________ ? .

(is it catalog or OSC, then insert the files I downloaded from osC)?.

If My server offers PHP and Mysql do I need to purchase?.

Can I edit and save live online within my Firefox browser?.

And PHP or Mysql or both?.

I don’t think I understand the purpose of PHP/MYSQL?.

Is it a language? like html?.

Thnks alot.

Hi,.

If your current iPage website is hosted with them, then yes, you would be best to use them I guess. Although their cheapest package for php/mysql appears to be "Base 1 account", and at $24.95 / mth is a total ripoff (I charge USD $60 per year for osCommerce sites)..

Depends how your current iPage site is setup really. Usually with osC, you simply load the 'catalog" path into the "web root" path..

OsCommerce needs PHP and MySQL, so if you want to use osCommerce, ......yes..

PHP is a scripting language, the statements are parsed by the server and returned to the client (browser). HTML is not processed in any way by a server, unless you of course use server side includes in your html..

MySQL is a database, to store your data (products,etc)..

Hi Todd,.

No executable files, because osCommerce uses PHP ( a scripting language) and MySQL as the database. Even if you run osC on a windows platform (that is, not on a website/server), then there are still no executables, you need to run an Apache server, PHP and MySQL..

Here's something to get you started:.
