I would like to know the answer too. Anyone here know what is the answer to that question. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I got an answer. You should email the people at iPage as they probably could answer your iPage question..
I can delete sub categories through the admin but not the 3 main ones. Hardware, software and dvd's.
Is it safe to go through myphpadmin and delete that way?..
I have deleted through phpmyadmin and they don't show up in the osc admin anymore but still can't add new ones???..
Yes, if you also delete any 'orphan' categories, which there would be now, by the sound of it..
Also, there is the 'categories_description' table to consider..

Everything in categories is gone, still cannot add new categories through admin in osc...
The sql tables are empty and none show up in admin but I still cannot add any new categories..
If you mean.
The tables are gone, then I would suggest you go into phpMyAdin, and use the IMPORT tab/feature, and 'import from a file', then use the file called /install/oscommerece.sql.
I have just deleted the oscommerce installation and put a brand spanking new fresh install. Still cannot delete the main 3 categories. I can get rid of Sub-categories. I also cannot add new main categories or edit the existing ones!..
What happens when you press the 'new category' button ? .
You should see the table on the right change with "New category" heading with:.
"Please fill out the following information for the new category".
* Category Name (one field per language).
* Category Image.
* Sort order.
'save' and 'cancel' buttons down the bottom..
Yep that all comes up, I fill out the info hit save and no changes have been made..
And thanks for trying to help me out.

Can you see if there is a file called 'error_log' or similar, it is the default for PHP, and it may have some warning errors in it that may help. It _should_ be in your 'public_html' or 'www' folder usually..
No, no error messages that I can see. I have installed oscommerce using a tool called fantastico from my web host..
It is like it is all working properly but the datbase is not being changed...
Woops, ........ I would advise.
To use that. Nothing against Fantastico, but the hosts I use have many posts of osCommerce installs "gone wrong" when using Fantastico to install osC..
I'd suggest you stick to the 'standard' osCommerce installation..
I'll give it a go. Thanks for the help!..
Didn't work. Have installed the old fashioned way but it is still doing the same thing!!!! GRRRRRRRRRR getting frustrated!..
I have the same exact problem and I can not come up with a solution...
Yep I have followed everything to the T. It is very strange because I can create new sub-categories and delte and edit the sub's but just the main 3 categories cannot be touched..
I'm very new to osc and am having an annoying problem. I am trying to delete categories in admin and nothing happens. The page refreshes but nothing has changed!!! Please help..
Are you able to delete the category manually, via (say) phpMyAdmin or a tool like that ? .
