Medifast is a wonderful program with many different types of support and a fabulous community. We understand that everyone is an adult and this is not a "mean" group. For some of us, we thrive on this program if we have a place where we are held accountable, where we commit to the program 100% and where we have a place to chat with others who feel the same..

What we believe:.

1. Cheating on Medifast is NOT a strategy to get us out of our fat suits.

2. The only way for us to learn about our problems with food is to take the word "choice" out of the equation when it comes to Medifast. Our only "choice" is 5 packets and 1 weighed and measured lean and green a day.

3. We look to those who have been successful with this strategy to continuously remind us about why this way, for us, is the way to go.

4. We believe that, even though we are completely committed, knowing that we have a group that holds us accountable for our actions is both useful and important.

We commit to:.

1. Remove the word "choice" from our vocabularies.

2. Follow the Medifast plan as written, including transition and maintenance.

3. Tell our "inner brat" to shut the H-E-** up and quiet him or her through abstenance from off plan foods.

4. Give and receive tough love without complaining or calling each other "mean".

5. Cheerlead fellow group members as they follow the path to thinness.

6. Make Medifast the LAST diet we ever go on.

7. Check in with the group as often as our schedule reasonably allows.

8. Be honest with ourselves and our Medifast family and to stay 100% OP at all times. We also swear that WHEN (not if) we are having a tough time and feel like we may eat SLUDGE, to come to our Medifast family first and ask for support and help to get us through the struggle..

I saw a recipe here, I think you just roast the kale with a little olive oil and seasoning until it's hard and chip like.. if it works I'll let you know.

I need to mix up my veg since I pretty much only eat green beans and salad or tomatoes...

Good morning Tough Love. Snow day for me! Finally a chance to do some wash and get caught up on life in general. I need it. The show will be done on Sunday, and I'll be back to normal again. I can't wait! As much as I enjoy the theatre, it is a huge committment on top of my regular job. Not to mention the sludge of "Willy Wonka".



Have a great on plan day everyone. I'm going to take a few hours to myself and then try to go to school and work on the set...

Hmmm, I can't decide which day to start. I guess I'll start Thursday if my food comes early enough in the day tomorrow that I'm able to read exactly what to do. If not, I could do Friday. Or, would I be better off waiting until Monday? I don't want to be cranky all weekend. Did you guys find that you were cranky the first few days? I read that somewhere else. But, if I start over a weekend then I'll be busier and maybe I won't think about being hungry and cranky.



I have a feeling I'll be posting 20 questions a day for the first couple weeks...

Morning Tough Lovers!.

Freya - I was the one who saw myself in the gym mirror. I may be wrong but I think I saw myself as I really am, I just hoped for better. But I know that in the past when I have been thinner (never to goal) I always felt much fatter than I was. Some sort of reverse mental trick. Why cant we see ourselves as fat as we truly are when we're fat, and as thin as we really are when we're thin? I can at least take comfort in the fact that this seems to be a universal phenomenon. Pictures help.



Robin - I started on a Thursday, before a holiday weekend, so I had Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to get through the worst of the transition into ketosis. I would not have wanted to be sluggish or bitchy or whatever at work. It is different for everyone. Choose what you believe will work best for you. Some of the best advice I had was to try to sleep through as much of it as possible. I didn't sleep the whole time but I definitely kept life very low key..

Barb - so glad you're surviving the show preparations. This is a major event, major stress, and could easily be major temptation. So I'm really proud of you and hope you're equally proud of yourself..

Perhaps it's best to start Monday then when the girls are all in school and I can sleep the day away if I want. Hubby works from home so he's the only person I'd have to deal with all day and he's already been warned...

I'm a firm believer in "why put off until tomorrow what you can do today". There is no written rule that you will be cranky or have headaches or feel bad. Many do. Other's don't. I've never had any of the side effects of detox. No headaches, no excess crankiness (I'm always cranky so who knows on that one <snicker>), etc.

I guess it comes down to how bad you want to lose the weight..

Anna - Rather than sprinkle with olive oil, spray the kale with cooking spray. You have to really babysit these because they can burn easily. You don't want the kale to brown..

Kc - You know that you really don't want to eat!! Find other things to keep your hands and your mind occupied. Hang around here as much as you can and you'll get through it..

I agree with de..... If you really want to do this you will What will putting it off do? mayber gain a few extra pounds...If you are serious about committing to Medifast then do it... Medifast is a great program but you have to want to do it... nothing is easy..If your food has arrived what are you waiting for.....

I know that sounds a little harsh... but tough love... We are all here for the same reasons and unless you are willing to change this will be impossible.

We are a great group and very supportive but somethings you need to do for yourself!!.

No, not harsh at all. That's why I like this thread!.

The food is supposed to arrive tomorrow. No way will I gain anything before Monday. That's why I did my first weigh in prior to getting the food. I'm already cutting back so that I don't see anything more on the scale even if I do wait until Monday. I'll decide tomorrow after I get the food and read all the info that comes with it. I think I have plenty of what I will need in the house to begin on Thursday if that's what I decide to do...

Excellent Idea, Robin. You body will be very busy using the limited (hooray!) calories and superb nutrition you'll be eating for OnPlan. Be good to yourself. Don't overtax your energy supply and drink all your H20++++..

I am feeling better emotonally today. Thank You, God!.

Kale chips: I bought organic kale, put some Paul Newman's Sindried tomatoe drsg on it, backed on 3 ccokie sheets (after washing, drying, and ripping into smaller pieces) and put in a low over (200 degrees in convection oven/air ciruclation) for a long time..

YUCK! Never again. Some people love them. Not me. Yuck. My experiment reamined in my kitchen for a few days as a reminder to eat this. YUCK! Finally washed all the cookies sheets last night.



I even had my DH try them (ask Mickey! he'll eat anything!) after mentioning they were supposed to taste like potatoe ships. He thought they did. Oh well. The hardest part of my kale disaster was not the expense (yes organic treat $$$), but the investment in energy..

I have a dental appointment today, so I'll be seeing real human beings again. Happy!.

I will take an extra energy pill @ I hr before I leave. It is one of my vitamins. Also consume olive leaf pills and oregano oil for any bacteria that seep into my blood stream during the cleaning..

My food came on a Thursday, we had dinner and a movie plans with our daughter and son-in-law on Saturday, and the next Thursday was Thanksgiving. So....I toyed with waiting till Monday or even after Thanksgiving. I woke up on Friday and thought - what am I waiting for? Just more excuses to put it off........I started that day. I never really had the headaches or anything like that. Just a little tired. But I felt SOOOOO good when Monday morning came and I was in ketosis and feeling great.

And when Thanksgiving came I was full of energy while everyone else was sitting there so full they could barely stand it..

You have to make your own decision. Guess what I'm trying to say is I'm so glad that I just went ahead and did it. I spent too many years waiting till the perfect time. How many Mondays came and went with something new to talk me out of getting started?.

I would really love to join the thread. I find that I do a lot better when I expect discipline of myself and others hold me to it. I am very close to my goal...(lost a lot before MF, and came here for the last 15.) I have about 5 to go, but they are very hard and there is no room for faltering because they are the dreaded last 5 and because I have a thyroid condition which makes losing each pound like losing 5. I really love the clear mental state that you all share in tough love. It feels like an impenetrable boundary to me which I need to get me through this. I do not want to waist any more time and money stagnating....

KC- Hey lady!! Don't let that PMS win...it secretly likes us fat. Show it who is boss! And...just find things to distract yourself with today. Do fun activities. Drink lots of water. Eat your favorite meals. And keep coming back here....and we'll hold your hand through it.

We've all done it. Sometimes it sucks...but when you make it through PMS and don't be cheater McCheaterson...you'll have such a sense of "I did it!".

Robin- I'm with De...why put it off...just to put it off. I got my food delivered to me on a Wednesday and I started the diet the next Thursday. I initially thought...I'll wait until Monday and get a good Monday start, but once I got the food out...and got it all organized, etc...I realized I was ready and good to go. I'm glad I did....since jumping in right away made it so I didn't over think it...and I didn't spend the next few days binging like crazy waiting for the Magical Medifast Monday..

Hugs and no chopped tofu to anyone! It's flippin' cold here...in the negative degrees with a biting wind chill. Brr. I'll burn some calories just with my teeth chattering!.

I have to wholeheartedly agree that there is no time like the present. I received my first shipment on a Monday afternoon and started on a Tuesday. Who starts a diet on a Tuesday?! I just had a feeling that this would be IT, and there was no sense in waiting. I do understand wanting to start of a Thursday, though, in case one does experience the headache that so many talk about..

I went with the pink crystals on silver today for earrings. I brought them all with me and plan to photograph them all shortly...

Welcome Claire. No one here can relate to your thyroid issues more than I can! It's the reason I'm back on 5&1 right now. After I lost weight, my levels were all over the place and I wasn't responding to the new formulation of Armour. Enter Synthroid and an almost overnight (2 months) gain of 20 lbs!! Started getting my Armour compounded and think we finally have the dosage straightened out. Lost over 5 lbs my first week back. And you're absolutely right.

But it CAN be done, it just takes a little more perseverance for us than it does for others..

Penny - Do you do pendants too, or just earrings?.

I swear the WF pancake syrup was a Godsend. I just tried it recently for the first time and I'm so in love..

Weigh in day for me today. Down another 2.6 lbs. Yay. Getting closer and closer!!! To celebrate, today I am wearing a new pair of black boots. No no no, not my regular ankle high boots. These actually are tall boots.

Yep, I was/am the same way. I was in complete and total denial about how big I was when I was 289. I never looked in mirrors so I was able to avoid reality. Now, I can't really see how small I've gotten. I do mirror therapy now. My own made up therapy of checking out myself in a mirror that I can see myself head to toe before I leave the house.

It's working pretty well!..

The best suggestion is to print out all the guides at Success Tools: Eat Right. Then you don't need us to make suggestions, as you'll have all the info at your fingertips!.

You need Lean, Green, Meatless (this is where cheese lives, so even if you're not vegetarian print this one out), Condiments (where the healthy fats live - see the Lean sheet to know how many you need), and Snacks..

I carried the printouts around with me for the first few weeks until I had memorized enough for my basic routine...

Thanks, Dherschberg for your response, and I am really relieved that I am not alone with the thyroid issues. I recently switched from Synthroid to Armour and feel sooo much better. My previous doctor would not prescribe me Armour, even though I begged for it. Was losing my hair, feeling horrible, depressed and could not lose. So, I finally switched about 10 days ago. Synthroid has been terrible for me by comparison.

I get mine in tablets. Can you also choose to have it compounded? By the way, congrats on your loses and for getting back OP after regaining!!!.

Penny, your jewelery is pretty! I love wire wrapped stones, and I admire the skill that it takes to do it so that it looks smooth and even..

I have just finished my grocery shopping and forgot to buy Kale! I have never made the chips, but was planning on steaming it and eating it with Bison. Darn, I guess it will be lettuce or green beans tonight..

I had read those lists before but was unsure about the fats and condiments so I need to figure that out. But, a L&G breakfast seems simple enough. So, that's what I'll do. I'll eat half of it first thing tomorrow and save the rest in case UPS is late tomorrow. Funny how I went from thinking I should wait to starting when the box arrives..

Penny - My countdown is based on the actual departure time of the ship. I noticed Royal Caribbean's also seemed to be a day off. Maybe they just assume that people will leave the day before??.

Claire - When I had my thyroid out at 8, the immediately started me on Armour. They didn't have the synthetic options available back then. I've had a couple of drs try to switch me to synthroid, with disastrous results each time. About 2 years ago Armour reformulated their tablets to change the filler. This was also about the time that it was not readily available. I am in the small % of people whom the new fillers affected the absorption of the medication.

All your Dr. needs to do is write the prescription outlining the exact dose of T3 and T4 you need. I get mine done through Women's International Pharmacy. The only filler they use in their capsules is olive oil. I can forward on the info if you are interested..

Robin, my cruise leaves from Tampa and goes to Cozumel, Belize, Isla Roatan, and Grand Cayman... another TLer is joining my family on this cruise....

It will be the first time we've met and we can't wait!.

Thanks, I am always interested! This thyroid stuff is really new to me. I was diagnosed last fall after feeling all the symptoms for years which lead to packing on the weight. Never would I have imagined that all of the symptoms were the result of a thyroid problem. There is alot to learn and the medical community seems to be really biased against Armour...

Weird things happening with the boards. my post showed up 2 hours later, with the changes I had made..

My mom is doing good. Her Primary Care Physician is taking over and it looks like a test mid-March will help diagnose what's going on. Good thing - her bloodwork does not indicate cancer and both her doctors think the hospital Dr. jumped the gun on saying Cancer! So yah! So now we wait to see what the pancreas looks like. And she still needs her gall blader removed but that's a secondary concern. So life is much more calm now and I don't have to go to a Dr's office for awhile!.

I need to take a vacation, you all make me jealous. I'm thinking Australia.......

I've planned out my L&G up to and including Saturday. I'll just make dinner for everyone including those things...easy enough. Now, I'm trying to come up with rewards for every 10 lbs lost. Obviously, my reward at goal with be new clothes. Hubby says he'll buy me a new Coach purse and wallet at goal. Woohoo!.

I can't wait to start tomorrow!..

Robin...I love hearing the excitement in your posts about starting tomorrow. That's fantastic!.

Here are a few tips when you get started and I hope the others hop on and give you their advice too:.

1. Weigh everything, at least in the beginning. It's amazing how easy it is to short yourself on your L&G when you don't measure it. As you get along in the plan, you can eye ball...but in the beginning our eyes tend to lie..

2. When making the shakes...it helps to mix it up in a blender or something like a Magic Bullet or a blender. It makes it much smoother. I also liked to make it a little before I planned on eating it...so it had time to sit a little bit. I also put some ice in there and then blended it up...so it was nice, cold and frothy..

3. If you don't like something aka...the oatmeal is often not liked by many...just put it aside. (BTW...I love the oatmeal, all the flavors). You'd be amazed at how your taste buds change and you might like it later..

4. If you are going to be out and about for a while...have an extra meal with you. You never know when you are gonna get in a jam and need to have a meal..

5. Just because you read a recipe on the boards doesn't mean it is on plan...take a discriminating look at it and make sure it follows the rules. So do...many do not..

6. As someone else said, carry that Quick Start Guide around with you for a while, so you can quickly reference it if need be..

Thank you, Shelley! I appreciate the advice! I checked out the recipe threads yesterday. I'm staying away from them for a good long time. I'm sticking to the basics at first. In the future if there is something I find inedible or just need a change of pace, then maybe I'll check it out...

Wow! stopping in quick, while the board is up, to say goodnight!.

If anyone has a 99 Restaurant in their area, you've gotta check out their new menu. There has to be half a dozen L&G friendly choices. I had a perfect piece of grilled salmon with a grilled roma tomato (yum), grilled asparagus, and steamed broccoli. What a delicious L&G! 440 calories and only 10 carbs!.

BIG HEAVY SIGH!!!.

I've been MIA for a week or more, but still OP. It's been nutso, nutso, nutso!! My sister & niece were here again so gave up my office (and computer) to my niece. So early morning check-ins didn't work. A snow-storm blew through here after 3 days of temps in the 50's had melted all the existing snow. Thank goodness for that or we'd really be buried. But, it couldn't decide if it wanted to warm or cold so we got snow, we got rain, we got freezing rain, we got hail.

Back & forth to the airport in the worst of it because their flight was canceled - took them to the airport and 3 hours later went back & rescued them. Gave me an extra day with them which I was happy about. They left at 10:30 pm last night..

So, I'm pretty pooped. I'll NEVER be able to catch up, much to my dismay, but I did skim through and see there's lots of newbies -.

Happy to report I'm down 2.6 for the week! YAY!!.

Hi all..

Long day for me today. Treated myself to a salad at my favorite salad bar for dinner. They dont have a diet dressing so I use cup salsa mixed with a tablespoon of sour cream. Lots of flavor. Time to go do my treadmill and then relax and veg for the rest of the evening..

In other news.

-I have only had 1 snow day from school this year. Which is one more than last year!.

I am NOT complaining..

-I made the kale chips once. They were actually pretty good. They are no good leftover, though. I will probably do it again soon..

-Robin doesnt really matter which day you start, in my opinion. Just getting going is a great feeling. I also printed out all the lists. They stayed magneted up on the fridge the whole time I was on 5&1. Covered the whole front top half! It was so helpful to have them all right there in front of me..

-Pretty sparklies!.

I'm a really happy camper right now....

My neighbor emailed me asking if we wanted her to watch the girls for our anniversary (April 30, we watched their daughter for the whole weekend for their anniversary). Are you freakin' kidding me? Umm YES! We haven't had an overnight out alone since late '07 when we flew back to close on our house in Northern VA. OMG I am so stoked. So we made hotel reservations and tomorrow I'm going to call about horseback riding while we're there. If that's not freakin' motivation I'm not sure what is! Come on UPS man...hurry up!..

Hey guys I have a NSV to report..

I started Medifast in a size 26W.

My Grandmother bought be some size 22W over the weekend.

Today I walked into Old Navy and saw the cutest pair of jeans in a size 18. I wanted to see how far I was from being able to fit into them. I took them into the dressing room..

Not only did they button.

THEY FREAKING FIT PERFECTLY!!!!!.

I am in a size 18 again!!! Granted it is only in this store as far as I am aware of but I don't care 18!!!..

De and Penny - did you know the only dolphins you are allowed to swim with are females? Believe it or not, besides humans, dolphins are the only mammals that mate for PLEASURE, and the males will try to "mate" with anything and everything that gets near them (sorta like a lot of men I know!). So enjoy your swim, but stay away from the males - unless you want a little unexpected dolphin love! LOL Absolutely true, I swear...
