Question I have... Uploading domain (subdirectory) to website with iPage? Thanks in advance for any answer or 2. Another quick question... Hi,.

Just wondering, is there a way to limit the number of characters allowed in the product description field so that if a user tries to enter more than the allowed number of characters they're not able to..

At the moment I've worked out how to limit what's displayed on the page (by specifying a number in the varchar field in phpmyadmin) but would like to know whether I've reached the maximum number of characters before I upload the descriptions so nothing gets chopped off!.

Any ideas greatly appreciated!.

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some Googling and get back to you if I bump into an good answer. You should email the people at iPage as they probably could help you..

Unless you have specified text then the max number characters is 255 then limited by the varchar to a number below this..

Hello steve!.

Thanks for replying. I have specified the number of characters to be 180, and that's what's showing up on my web page..

But what I would like to know is how I can actually PREVENT a user from entering more than, say, 180 characters in the product description section in the admin panel. so that as they try to type the 181st character it won't show up on the screen..

That way, they'll be able to adjust their description so it's wrapped up in the allotted number of characters and doesn't get chopped off when it's uploaded..

Any ideas?.

Textarea fields don't have a 'maxlength' option. I found this reference which provides an alternate way using Javascript to perform the function though:.
