Good question... I dunno what is the answer. I'll do some investigation and get back to you if I find an anything. You should email the people at iPage as they probably could help you..
This doesn't explain how you link a specific file with a product in the database. So I upload the file, but how do I tell oscommerce which file goes with which product..
Also, I've followed these instructions exactly, but I'm not able to make it work with the sample "unreal.zip" file..
Any info would be really helpful thanks.
Config - Download.
You need to enable this if you are going to allow people to download products at checkout from your store..
First, put the product to be downloaded in the download folder on the Internet:.
It will be read from the "pub" folder..
Make sure /catalog/pub is 777 and /catalog/download is 755 and these files in catalog/includes/configure.php have the forward slash:.
Under configuration in the admin set up the download info, true, true, expiry date, max number of downloads..
Add the product in the admin under "catalog", "categories/products..
After you have added the product go to "Product Attributes" under the "Catalog" heading in admin..
Choose the product in the bottom "Product Attributes" box..
When you choose a product and have download enabled in the configuration section you will see a box below the "Product Attributes" section where you can add the product as a download...
Oh whoops I just found out where you add the filename. in the product attributes thanks.
I am having a terrible time. I have tried everything to get the download link/button to show after completing a successful transaction..
I am trying to use the download feature for PDF files (e-books)..
Check out Success states at the bottom - Download is available here".
It shows the product name & number of downloads remaining, but no Download button or hypertext link to go to..
It shows up in the My Account" page under view orders. It says "Download Links", the filename/product, nymber of downloads left, BUT STILL NO LINK TO THE FILE TO DOWNLOAD IT!.
I have made sure that the order status of the product is "delivered"..
I have checked permissions on the "download" directory. I have checked permissions on the "pub" directory. I checked the permissions on my uploaded PDF files..
I added 1000 as a quantity in stock..
I have set the expiry date to 0. (which, by the way, caused the expiry date of December 7, 1999 to go away - But where in the hell did it get this date from? AND, could that still be lurking around somewhere, causing my link/button not to show).
I've checked config.php to make sure the references to the download directory were correct..
I've scoured the database to make sure the info was correct..
And I have searched this forum for three days..
This is for my dad and uncle's new web site, so it means more than just a regular client..
I am at my wits end - and I honestly believe that I have looked everywhere - famous last words..
It all depends upon how you are processing payments, what you have set for the default shipping after an order is placed. if payment is set by check/money order, then until you set the order status to delivered, etc it will not allow the file to be downloaded...
Just fyi, when you have it working right, The download link (after purchase) does not show as.
It just shows up as the name of the product. You should be able to hover over the product name and get a hyperlink..
However...I noticed that if you specify the file location wrong when you set up the product, you won't get a hyperlink. It will show the product name, but there is no way to download it..
In the product attributes screen, where it has a field for "filename" you need to just put the name of the file, no, path or url. The file must be in your downloads directory. Look at the post above to see how to set folder permissions..
If you setup the the default installation, you can look at the "unreal tournament" software product as an example. You can download the file "unreal.zip" from the downloads directory if you turn downloads on..
Hope this helps!.
I still need to find out how to have UNIQUE set of username/passwords (pin#) sent in the email along with the download link...
I have a question..
Is it possible to offer downloads straight from oscommerce..
I think I saw it on a iPage site that uses oscommerce..
Click here to go to the iPage site I mean:.
I would like to be able to offer software from a iPage site that has to be paid for..
The checkout and payment process is pretty much the same as the normal way only I want to make it able to let the people download a program that they paid for..
So it's a sort of a shipping method..
As I'm writing this I start thinking it would also be rather easy to add a shipping method called "download" and once the payment is done I can manually send the buyer a download link..
Please let me know what the possibilities are and if anyone has any experience with this subject..
Set weight of all downloadable products to zero and enable DOWNLOADS in the ADMIN section. Any products with zero weight will skip the shipping screen..
See the PLEASE READ part of my signature..
