Thanks for your feedback and concern. I realized it was an infection based on the guidelines that I was given when I was discharged from the hospital. The incision site became red. I had the steri-strip at the incision which is white and realized it had turned completely yellow. I immediately called the doctor's office and they advised me to take off the strip at the site and drainage started coming out. They did call in an antibiotic for me but I was just really surprised how quickly this happened. It could have been from a wide variety of things from the hospital to coming home that caused the infection. You will never be able to pinpoint one thing that caused it..
My husband's drain site was infected post op. The dr. gave him an antibiotic and it cleared up nicely. Just be sure to take all of the antibiotic. Don't stop taking it just because it is looking better. You have to take the whole course.
Keep the site clean and dry. Keep it covered with a clean gauze. Wash it twice daily with a mild soap and water and it should heal up for you..
