My first question is What exactly is the Medifast Diet? Hoping for any answer or 2. Another question... Other topics will be discussed that may not be appropriate for the easily offended..

Please discontinue reading Tough Love threads if they are going to cause you to become upset..

Medifast is a wonderful program with many different types of support and a fabulous community. We understand that everyone is an adult and this is not a "mean" group. For some of us, we thrive on this program if we have a place where we are held accountable, where we commit to the program 100% and where we have a place to chat with others who feel the same..

What we believe:.

1. Cheating on Medifast is NOT a strategy to get us out of our fat suits.

2. The only way for us to learn about our problems with food is to take the word "choice" out of the equation when it comes to Medifast. Our only "choice" is 5 packets and 1 weighed and measured lean and green a day.

3. We look to those who have been successful with this strategy to continuously remind us about why this way, for us, is the way to go.

4. We believe that, even though we are completely committed, knowing that we have a group that holds us accountable for our actions is both useful and important.

We commit to:.

1. Remove the word "choice" from our vocabularies.

2. Follow the Medifast plan as written, including transition and maintenance.

3. Tell our "inner brat" to shut the H-E-** up and quiet him or her through abstenance from off plan foods.

4. Give and receive tough love without complaining or calling each other "mean".

5. Cheerlead fellow group members as they follow the path to thinness.

6. Make Medifast the LAST diet we ever go on.

7. Check in with the group as often as our schedule reasonably allows.

8. Be honest with ourselves and our Medifast family and to stay 100% OP at all times. We also swear that WHEN (not if) we are having a tough time and feel like we may eat SLUDGE, to come to our Medifast family first and ask for support and help to get us through the struggle..

Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the answer to that question. I'll do some Googling and get back to you if I bump into an good answer. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably can help you..

Hi, Barb! I'm up on my night shift, about to refill my 20 ounce water bottle AGAIN (have lost count, but pretty sure I'm up to 6) and walk in the hallway, since I have the opportunity! (Not all night shifts are as good!).

Hope everyone has a great day!..

Good morning Ella. I can't believe how much I've already accomplished this morning. Of course, tonight i'll probably crash by 8. DD is coming home for the week, and I'm very excited to spend some time with her..

Working on my second pot of coffee!..

Oh, that's wonderful! I'm not looking forward to my oldest going off to college this coming fall! She's one of my best friends..

I think tonight has been "call the ER and ask the nurse a stupid question" night. Seriously... some of the questions I have been fielding tonight have made me wonder if people are calling drunk......

Is there a full moon? I know my students aren't right when there is one....and ERs are just as bad...

Good morning!!!!! It's raining and dreary here in Tappan, NY - but still looking forward to a fabulous OP day!!!!.

Fuzzy, great to hear you're going to be able to spend some time with your dd - mine still lives at home and I'm cherishing every minute because I know it won't last forever..

Mornin' Ella! On behalf of all people with stupid questions, I thank you. It if it weren't for you they'd wouldn't be getting good answers - think of it that way! :-).

I just drove dh into the city as he's doing some ot - I'm looking forward to breakfast - so many great choices - what to have???? I may go with a ch. chip pancake, we'll see..

Hope everyone is well today!.

Morning Ella and Barb! Thanks for getting us started..

My husband and oldest son are going to Yu GI Oh this am, then tonight dh is going out with his old coworkers. Youngest and I are going to work on his George Washington project. I will probably clean too b/c my oldest is having his bday part at paintball tomorrow and we might get thunderstorms in which case we will be having the party at home I guess...

Melissa....good morning. DD has an interview with NY Medical College for a PhD position next year. I think that is near you. We are secretly hoping she stays in DC, but we will take any position she can get given the economic times..

Anna.....enjoy the day!.

Keep the coffee pot full.....I'm off to clean up the stage...

Thanks, Melissa... but there's questions because people really don't know and there's questions where everyone else gathers around because they can tell what you're dealing with just from your end of the phone call and they're trying not to laugh! (Which would be bad, because then *I* would laugh.).

And I'm really not kidding that at least one of them sounded drunk, which makes me kinda think when she sobers up she won't remember the answer I gave her!.

Morning, Anna!!! Sounds like a fun day for everybody!..

Morning all! I'm off to hug the coffee pot and pick at a crunch bar...

Morning MT - be careful hugging a hot coffee pot or you'll need to call Ella!.

Ella, I hear you - patience IS a virtue. And trust me, I have none of it!!!!! :-) Actually, I try... but with dh it's a challenge. He's 55 going on 3 or 4. Sometimes I laugh, sometimes I want to strangle him. I'm sorry you're getting the really stupid calls, they're a waste of time and yes, she'll probably wake up (with a nasty hang over) and have no idea she even called you!.

I miss doing strictly pediatrics... because then I could say, "Well, I'm a peds nurse, so I have little patients(patience)".... bah duh dum CRASH. (Okay, I didn't say I was good at jokes.)..

Good morning! I've got French roast in my French press and I can't wait until it's finished! It's almost 40 degrees here this morning and hopefully we can get rid of some snow this weekend..

Melissa you're just down the river from me - I'm near Albany. Another TLer (laxin) is in OC..

Not much on my agenda today, happily...

Good morning tl'ers...

Barb and ella thanks for getting us started... Cats had me up at 5:30 today, don't they know it's the weekend... I did feed them and go back to sleep (which I never do) now I feel guilty because I'm thinking about all I could have accomplished!!!!! Oh well it will get done!.

Ella.. I think about going back to school all the time to be a nurse, unfortuately I'm 47 and I just don't have the head.. I really want to be a diabetes educator... What hospital do you work at?.

Barb.. have thanks for the coffee.. needed it today.

Melissa can't believe it's raining in tappan, I'm in warwick no rain here..

Anna enjoy the day with your family.

Need to exercise today and take ds shopping for clothes cleats and sneakers... the way he is growing they wont fit in a month.....

Penny you snuck in while I was typing.... good morning and enjoy your day..

Morning all! Busy weekend at our house. My 19 year old goes to college here in town so he's still at home, but my daughter, son-in-law, and 2 grandbabies (2 & 4) came in yesterday. My middle one will be home from college today. I love having the house full. And with the babies.....there's always something happening. My hubby and I have to ride in a Mardi Gras parade tonight so if it stops raining we'll enjoy the festivities this afternoon too.

Have a wonderful OP day everyone!.

Mornin' Penny!!!! French toast sounds DELICIOUS!!!! Enjoy!.

Shout out to Laxin in OC - yeah, that's me waving from RC! :-).

Oh Ella, stand up, no, but I bet you make all the little ones laugh! My daughter is doing her internship as a cardio eccho tech at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC - well, she.

Would be.

If she hadn't broken her ankle on the ice. She got to a near by hospital where we met her - and the dr said 'must be winter - all I get is broken ankles and wrists!' Yeah. Well she's walking again after 8 weeks, but not 100% yet. She's going back to work on April 8..

15 minutes to breakfast for me - it's more challenging for me on the weekends as I'm not as busy in the morning at home (that's why I'm here!!!!). Dd and I are going shopping at 10am for a friends wedding shower. I will bring bars as I think this may run into lunch. Either way, I'll be ready!.

Morning Peeps!.

Melissa - Get your head out of the gutter girl! Penny said French ROAST (coffee) ROFL. Good morning by the way.

Cindy - My stewpid cat woke ME up at 5:30 this morning as we, but not to be fed. One of them was just laying in the yard yowling for no good reason. Unfortunately, once I'm awake, that's it. Evil little beast must be punished!! lol I guess it's just as well, since the roofers are supposed to be here in an hour to torture me some more..

Ella - I HATE stupid questions! Patience is not a word in my vocabulary. I can't imagine having a job where I have to answer people's questions all day..

Penny - 1901/9/52! Hope you have a restful day today. Gee. Wonder what you'll be doing? <snicker>.

Morning Cara, Barb, MT, Anna and Laxin. Think that's everyone..

Today's going to be my usual. Grocery shopping and cleaning, and if the roofers get done early enough today, some yard work. Right now there is a big tarp in my yard. Unfortunately, all the stuff that SHOULD be on the tarp is on the ground AROUND the tarp. They'd better clean that up before they leave! We'll have CC tonight and tomorrow so I'm going to have to find ways to keep her entertained between loads of laundry...

There is no worse sound that being inside while they lay a roof. They did that when we lived in base housing and my youngest was 18 mos old, it was awful..

I hope all of you with kids coming home have a great time.

I thought the same thing you did..

Good Morning De! Oh too funny French Toast! You can see where my head's at! I think I need more coffee!!! :-) Hope the roofers get done soon, I would be fuming as well. I like my peace and quiet!.

Morning Cindy! Yeah, it's stopped now, but was coming down pretty hard around 6:30 this morning - of course caught on the upper level of the GWB with all the truckers! So nice. The good part was that I wasn't sitting there with my old version of "breakfast". Thankfully those days are GONE! :-).

I think maybe I'll try some of dd's French ROAST - I bet it'll help wake me up!!!!.

De love your post this morning enjoyed the laugh... tough love is the best.

Melissa looks like the rain arrived to OC... guess we'll get even more meltage..

Ds just asked me to make him breakfast..... time to hit the kitchen and deal with the sludge!!..

Thank you Anna and good morning!!!!.

I'm drinking dd's French.

- I have the Kuerig machine, and I have to say, it's not as good as from a press, but it's not too bad. Definitely waking up over here!.

Hey Laxin! I think it should pass quickly - they're talking about it getting to 54 degrees - I can deal with that!.

I'm off to take a shower and get ready for a shopping event - hope everyone has a fabulous OP day - I'll be back later..

Well, I'm drinking some hot tea hoping to not fall asleep over here!.

I work at a rural hospital in northwest Idaho... it's TEENSY. But before we moved here I worked down in Phoenix AZ at an inner-city county hospital in pediatric emergency and trauma and pediatric burn, as well as pulling shifts in the ERs of the city's two pediatric only hospitals. Up here it is a little bit of everything. It's worth it for the environment... the kids can run around safely, class sizes average 12, and DH doesn't have to worry about me getting shot at work. (The orientation for the hospital I worked at down there had a picture of all the weapons confiscated from patients/visitors over a 24 hour period and the warning that there were 9 active gangs within a 5 mile radius of the hospital.)..

Morning tough lovers! Thanks for the coffee! I thought I was having french toast with it too, until De pointed it out. lol!.

I was about to ask Penny for the recipe!.

I have another full weekend planned, but at least it should be somewhat decent weather out...

Good morning to everyone above and everyone to come. My dog alarm let me sleep in this morning. (Ever since I adopted this german shepherd/golden retriever last fall, I haven't needed an alarm clock)..

What was going to be a lazy weekend of movies and video games has really changed. We've got to build a small chicken coop and run today, so I've got to leave for the hardware store in a few..

And, our new tractor is coming this weekend, via FIL. So I need to tidy up a bit and make lunch for the family. They love my cooking, and everyone gets a little sad if they get here and there's no food in the oven. I haven't perfected any OP recipes yet with what I have at the house, so I'll have to stop by the store and get something for them. I'm still making them healthier food though..

De- I had a chocolate chip mug pancake this morning and it felt like a cheat! I'm so, so glad I ordered the pancakes this time. I used to eat too much bakery sludge and I had to joke with myself that the pancake wasn't a gateway drug..

And I ordered some WF syrups and DaVinci syrups and a couple other sugar free things I can't find at my local stores last night. I don't do too much doctoring of the Medifast meals, but I like to have the chance to change things up if I feel like it. I know I'll be eating this way for the better part of this year..

I'll pop in later but today is going to be madness...

I love all the new faces we have around here..

What an awesome group of ladies we have here in our little group (and the occasional boy, of course)..

I really, really, really love this group!..

Ok all... ben on the boards long enough... getting on the elliptical and will figure the rest out from there.. I'm I a very lazy lying around mood, problem is I don't know how to do that.

Be back later... time to sweat.

Ella - Your post is why I love living in Scottsdale! Sure there's still crime, but that's true everywhere. But most of the gang bangers here are rich white boys that vandalize because they have nothing better to do. hehe. We do get some of the refuse from the downtown area, but they never seem to last long. I live within 2 blocks of Chaparral park and still feel pretty safe walking the dogs by myself, at least until it's fully dark..

Morning Chickie and Zoe!..

Wow! Here I am up early on the weekend and there's already 4 pages! We are a busy bunch of TLers this morning!.

It has been a couple of very busy weeks for me and then sick with the virus d'jour so the house has gone to heck... time to remedy that this weekend! Thank you for all the energy floating around here this morning. I will put it to good use..

Howdy to all. Be back later...

Good Morning TL'ers! I can't believe how many of you are up early on a Saturday! I thought I was the only one that can't sleep in anymore!.

Too many posts for chopped tofu, I didn't have my coffee yet and can't keep up with who wrote what!.

I'll be back later, have a great OP day all!.

De, you remember back when we had two serial killers going around? The one shooting people in the back from his car (that one turned out to be two, didn't it?) and the one finding people at the car washes?.

Our house there, when I first moved in, was a nice, quiet little neighborhood. During that time frame though, it was in the "kill zones" for BOTH of those serial killers!.

And if you ever want a real eye opener, go to a website that lets you chart where all the sex offenders are in your zip code. There isn't a single part of the Valley that doesn't have any.... we had over 30 within 5 miles of our house..

I grew up in Scottsdale (I was an Arcadia girl back when that REALLY meant snobby!) so I know what you mean.... and sadly, I don't think there's really any place in the whole world that's totally safe anymore.... but Phoenix proper has really gone down the drain...

Just a quick howdy - lots of new faces since I last stuck my toe in the pool. Glad to see th 100% commitment growing strong..

De = patience. Spew!!!! And let the roofers annoy the cat. No extra charge..

Rainy, lazy day around here. Finishing off the coffee, then laundry, cleaning, napping, and then a trip to the gym. Wonder if they remember me? <sigh>..

Ella - That is true, and there are plenty of sex offenders here as well. I work in downtown Phoenix (Bank of America tower) and they are really working to clean up that part of town, but the residential areas there I don't even like to drive through! Scottsdale is probably one of the better places here to live, at least from Old Town north. I lived 20 years in Utah and you want to talk sex offenders! Shees! We would get weekly flyers about one that moved into this area or that..

Hey Tramp! You going to play today? Oh the roofers will traunatize my cats! They did last night. And then there's the dogs. UGH! I had to lock them in the house because the little one was sitting barking non-stop at the strangers on the roof! Don't have any cash this week or I would head to a movie! However, it's 7:30 here and no roofers! GREAT!..

Morning ladies....

Need coffee then I'm off to 5 rivers to bring the boy scouts some supplies. They are teaching cub scouts how to cook in dutch ovens outside. Thankfully it is 40+degrees out..

Love the pancake in a mug! Yummy!..

Morning TLers..

I'm hugging the French Roast from the French Press waiting for someone to bring me the French Toast..

The sun has decided to return to So Cal (temporary I think). So this morning we are going on a bike ride. Then I have a hair appointment at 2:00. Cut and color. Oh yah!.

Happy Saturday. Happy OP..

Oh yah, and patience for stupid questions... oh no.. I don't think so. I have none. None at all...

Mia, I LOVE five Rivers! I'll bet it's a muddy mess right now, though. For others not in our area, Five Rivers is a beautiful nature preserve maintained by the state with lots of trails and wildlife. Great for summer hikes and winter XC skiing, too..

I have three beautiful new sterling silver rings and some cool cherry quartz earrings to list and the Etsy site is having a hiccup. They're aware of the problem and are working on it. DRAT! (how long's it been since you heard THAT word?).

I can't get the chai to not bubble ober, even when it's just a thick paste. It almost bubbled over in my little ramekin, so I scraped it out onto a paper plate and let it finish cooking. It bubbled up almost two inches! It was fun to watch! Once it was starting to look dry, I shut the microwave off and it deflated into almost like one of those lace cookies. It was very good!.

De, will the roofers be coming on a Saturday? I remember when we had ours replaced. I didn't know they were going down to the rafters. Boy did I scramble to cover things in the attic! What a mess! your cat was probably complaining about the mess they left!.

Tara, are you the Tara who emailed me?..

Just did the elliptical went to turn on my dryer to find it making an awful sound because ds probably didnt empty his pockets and now something is stuck in it.... Wouldn't be surprised if you ll heard me yelling... Really, 14 and want to kill him... Now can't do laundry until sears comes out TUESDAY!.

Maybe should make him pay the $129 service call.. Then maybe he will remember to EMPTY HIS POCKETS... Not like we haven't had this talk before.

Thanks for letting me rant...

Thanks for getting us started this AM, Barb. Enjoy time with DD..

I am completely mixed up already, but have really enjoyed the posts and all the New Tofu..

Can we have a Tofu Tutorial, because I'm surely messing it up..

Slept 11 hours last night so the 3 ,ins in the tanning bed ifor a massive dose of Vitamin D is good for me. Had energy and slept well= win/win..

Ella, DD11, who we visit this week if a nurse in Truckee CA, smalll hospital, with everything flown to Reno. She is inundated during winter (skiing) and summer(more tourists). She loves her work, (12 hr. day shifts) most of the time. We're proud of her. She loves being a Mom, which surprised her.

So, now she has her own toddler along with her black lab..

I'm feeling full of pain today, but enjoyed the senation of muscles working properly in unsion yesterday as I climed the stairs everytime. A Marvel. I am using big trash bags to to gather old clothing for DH to take to GoodWill sometime..

Very tired, but hope some energy will return, because I made a total mess of the upstairs..

Anna: Happy Birthday, Birth Mother. Enjoy your family's celebration tomorrow with DH HOME!..

Yum! Now you're making me want to pull out my french press.

I have a chiropractor/physical therapy appointment and then a date this afternoon. Another dude I met on OkCupid-kinda nervous but a little excited too!..

I haven't been able to sleep in since I started Medifast in August. It kinda baffles me! I'm not hungry at night or even in the morning so I know it's not hunger pains that are getting me...

Morning! Love that I have the entire day with no one needed a piece of my time. I'm thinking I may go attack the excess in the attic. DH is keeping himself busy outside, doesn't need my help (YES!)..

One more cuppa and then I'm on to the attic.....

Hope everyone has a great day...

Melatonin/Serotonin is sleep-inducing substances you're body produces from carbs in the diet. Carbs help the brain sleep - we aren't getting many - therefore, we don't sleep well. You may want to look into adding a melatonin/serotonin supplement. I use a supplement containing a very low level of serotonin (all natural). Really helps me get a good night's sleep..

"For dinner and bedtime snacks, eat a meal or snack that is high in complex carbohydrates, with a small amount of protein that contains just enough tryptophan to relax the brain. " - Ask

What you got in mind? Do I need to bring bail money?..

Morning TL'ers!.

Howdy from Oklahoma. I am so glad to be home. Loved the trip but there truly is no place like home. Had chocolate chip pancakes with WF syrup this morning and it was heavenly. I was used to having them every day but didn't get them while on the road. I think I'm going to just have pancakes for all five Medifast meals today! LOL.

I wasn't going to weigh till tomorrow to let my body get back to normal "functioning" but when I woke up this morning the scale was staring me in the face, so I jumped on it. 237.7. I was 239 when I left on Tuesday morning, so very cool that I was able to be down a little over a pound even when I have to be full of poo and water weight. Couldn't tolerate my ticker at 242.6 so I changed the ticker today too..

I go to the doctor on Monday and I'm so excited that I'm down enough now that even with a full set of clothes on, when they put me on the scale they'll have to move the big weight down from 250 to 200!! I just wish I could videotape it! LOL.

De and Penny - I'm starting to get excited for your cruise. Every day you count down it makes me long for a trip like that. Before we know it, it will be like waiting for Anna's Eric to come home! I've only ever been on one cruise, and it was a 50th birthday gift from my mom. In January 2009 we cruised Australia and New Zealand, and it was wonderful. She passed away 8 short months later after having had a knee replacement surgery. So the memories are bittersweet.

So relaxing..

It is so hard to keep up with everyone, so I'm sorry for not having more shout outs. I'm reading every post, and celebrating everyone's successes..

Not planning to do a darn thing today. I WILL do something, but no PLANNED thing!.

Have a wonderful OP day, my friends...

Thanks Cault!! I'll be hitting the store today to buy some...

Tramp - Well, if you were here we would definitely need bail money! >wink>.

Penny - Yep. Roofers are here and getting the shingles up FAST! One guy in the back cleaning up the mess. I'm betting they will be done by 1 at the latest! I can't believe how fast it's going up!..

Good morning everyone. WOW you all are so chatty... I tried to skim it all but it's all lost in my brain! LOL!.

I did see a few things about Scottsdale. My husband and I lived there about 3 years ago... only for 10 months, but it's so beautiful there..

Im going to be cleaning my cabinets out today (and fridge) to get ready for mondays start.... I cant wait..

Hello to everyone else. Lots of newbies decided to join on the same day lol!..

Morning TL'rs ... Haven't been on your board in ages. 100% here since beginning Sept '10. 75 pounds down. Only way to do it is to well.... do it 100%..

Been on the road 30 out of the past 45 and didn't have a bit of a problem.. just 5 bars a day and a great L&G for dinner...

Im going out shopping later to stock up on things for L&G... any suggestions? Whats your fav go to item?.

Im pretty much going to have to cook one thing for my family and something else for me... so individual things are fine....

I know Im getting a giant bag of salad mix lol!! and some frozen chicken breast that are individual or something.... Beyond that Im drawing a blank...

Penny, I do use a 9 inch dinner plate for the chai cookie. I love swirling it around before I cook it...

Noelle - Why make different things? I never did. I would cook the same protein and veg for my family that I could have, and add in a starch for them. It certainly hasn't hurt my family at all to eat healthier as well..

Had my cup-o-pancake for breakfast and am now enjoying a English Toffee Cappucino. Now if I could just get rid of the strange me on my roof, I could get some serious yard work done...

I have the pickiest children on the face of the earth and we still mostly eat the same things they just have starch with theirs..

Off to the beach..

I do "emealz" for their dinners. Its basically just dinner menues... every week you go on and print the menu and shopping list. Its set up for "low fat/weight watchers meals" and most things are too carby for me to have. Obviously some days I can eat it, but most I cant. My family wouldnt be happy to be eating low carb etc.

So I have to make it as painless for them as possible... which means not altering THEIR food, just my own...

All this talk about french toast got me to thinking, so for my mid-morning Medifast meal I put some cinnamon in the regular pancake mix. THAT was awesome!!.

Noelle - I am by no means a vegetarian, but I really tend to lean on a lot of the meatless options because I often need something quick and easy. So I keep 1% cottage cheese, bocaburgers, and eggbeaters on hand all the time. I make omlettes a lot. Throw some baby spinach, mushrooms, and tomatoes in there and I'm in heaven..

I still haven't made the cauliflower pizza but do want to try it. Maybe that's something I could do this weekend...

"Good morning, everyone" *sung in an annoyingly happy, dreamy voice*.

I, Marlena, have lost 5 more MFin' pounds this week!! I am 3 pounds away from my first set goal...the lowest weight I've been wedding in 1998? Probably. I was going to get a massage, but I feel I deserve more. LOL! So, I think I'm going to purchase some blue color contact lenses. Just to mix it up a little. YAY!!!.

TK - amazing!!! I am going on a girl's trip to Miami in 4 weeks and it's my first trip on MF. I am hoping to take inspiration from you and still lose!.

To everyone else...hello!..

So for marinades.... I see we can use them (by a tsp or whatever) if you marinade meat, do you just assume that there isnt that much on it when you eat it?? Im still so confused with the counting of the L&D's for flavorings etc.....

And in the condiment list, it has crystal light as counting for half packet etc... however in the book, it says to drink water and crystal light type things, without saying you need to count it???..

Noeys - what day is it? That's the rule to follow... shm..

Tonight is my soon-to-be SIL bachelorette party. We will be going to dinner.... ahhhhh... to this place:.

This is my first time having to deal with a dinner event. What do I do?..

What book? All powdered SF drink mixes and sweeteners count as a carb because even though they say 0 calories/carb, the FDA does not require manufacturers to list calories under 5 and carbs uner 1. Crystal Light is 2 servings per sleeve, therefore 2 condiments. This comes directly from Nutrition Support, and while I don't agree with much of what they say these days, this particular response has not changed since the day I started. You can drink diet soda, unsweetened tea as much as you wasnt (except limit your caffeine to 3 servings per day) in ADDITION to the 64 oz of plain water..

As for the marinade, maybe try dry rubs instead of wet marinades? I love combos like Mrs Dash, or making my own cajun seasoning. I almost never wet marinade anything anymore...

The medifast booklet that comes with your first order... telling you how to do the plan..

Ok so dry spice things are a better idea then teriyaki sauce or whatever lol ok. Thanks!..

The Quick Start Guide? Wow. It's REALLY changed then since I started! Think I'll stick to the old school way. It certainly worked before...

From the "quick start book" page 10 Quote:.

"drink lots of fluids. Drink at least eight cups of water each day, as well as any low-calorie or calorie-free beverages such as unsweetened hot or iced tea, herbal tea, coffee, diet soda, and sugar free drink mixes (crystal light, sugar free cool aid, etc).

It doesnt say anything about having to count it???.

The only place I see to count it, is the online print out sheet?? Just curious why the discrepancies???..

58 outside.......sneakers laced.....I'm running outside! A little wind won't stop me...

Sorry to jump in on your board, guys, but it's not the Quick Start Guide she's referring to. It's an actual BOOK that came free with her first order. I can't lay my hands on mine right now, but I received the same book in January. It's excellent reading, and goes into deep detail about many nutritional issues, AND the Medifast plan. Just FYI...

Noeys, the QSG recently changed, and I don't think they changed the online sheet to reflect it. Crystal light always counted as a condiment and was a half packet at a time (who does that?). Now they say you can have zero calorie/zero carb stuff. So long as it doesn't have any calories, carbs, or sodium, I've never counted it. Even before they changed it. That's what I did, but your mileage may vary..

My best L&G is a small bagged salad with a serving (or two with seafood) of an approved dressing on the healthy fat list and my lean protein on top. Frozen shrimp are easy, frozen scallops, too - but you can't just thaw them; they hafta be cooked. Tuna (2 cans drained) or a 6 oz chicken breast are also great. Bison is another great option and you get 7 oz! Beef is a rare treat for me. I love it but I like the 7 oz. list better.

Is a tease..

Connor, congratulations! You ROCK! I have also been thinking about the color contacts. I have astigmatism and I know the technology there is new, but they're available. I've never worn contacts. I'm skeeved at the thought of touching my eyeball and leaving something there. But I've seen some awesome green contacts that I'd love to see myself in..

De, you have a "strange ME" on your roof?..

Ahhh, the good old Secret is Out! That's recently changed, too...

Can you give more information about the "free book" that came with first order? I started Medifast two weeks ago but did not receive a "free book" only the "quick start quide...

Oh. Got it. I started to read that and it didn't tell me anything I don't already know. It didn't even exist back when I started. Then again, the weight for chicken was 7 oz then.....

Noelle - You can do what you want, but if your weight starts to stall, you might consider dropping it. It makes sense that if you have to count packets of sweetener, you should also count powdered drink mixes because that's what they use in them...

Thanks for the ideas... I figured as much..

And no it wasnt that big book, it was the quick start guide..

I try not to drink tons of crystal light, but it does help to drink MORE if I really dont feel like water, so thats why I was curious. if I find I have trouble losing though I will cut it out completely..

The big book came if you signed up for the VIP club, or the be slim club (via take shape for life)..

The book "The Secret is Out" comes with an initial BeSlim (through a Health Coach) or VIP (through Medifast direct) order with a total of $250 or more...

It's barely 10:30 in the morning and ya'all are up to 74 posts in today's thread. Oh. My. God. girls what is going on in here? Quiet down, this isn't a slumber party!!!.

Anyway, I'm off to scrub some stuffz. I should be writing a 12 page summary judgement motion that's due next week, or getting dressed and going to Costco, but what I'm actually going to do is spring cleaning. I think it might be a "wash that man right outa my hair" urge, or just a general "at goal new beginnings the house should be clean damn it" thing, or paper procrastination, or all 3..

Probably all 3..

Good morning! I'll try to catch up later when productivity isn't making me all full of wiggles...

Just a note that even that quote that was posted did not say to replace water with CL. It said At Least 8 oz AS WELL AS....

Replacing water with anything, CL, tea, soda, is definitely not OP...

Not caught up on the thread since I got home, but just wanted to answer:.

Penny, yep, that's me! Thanks for the help! I'll be ready in about 2 weeks.

Everyone else, I gotta catch up first, I can't believe how this thread blows up sometimes!.

WHOA, gotta back up here, TRAMP you may have answered my problem without even being aware of it. So the body makes seratonin out of carbs. And the usual treatment for anxiety/depression is a SSRI (selective seratonin reuptake inhibitor for those that don't know). AND I have been EXTREMELY anxious lately, month 3 of MF. HMMMMM, I think I see the connection and my possible problem. I may try something OTC before trying anything extreme like a doctor visit and actual meds.

Why did I not make this connection before? I feel better already!.

That's right - all those no cal/no-carb things are only OK after you've gotten all your water. Get that water into your body every chance you get!..

Oh, this day! We've been to the hardware store 2 times already and have only 1/4 of the little coop built. This is going to be an all weekend project. Plus, I insist that all outbuildings match the house and be cute, so it takes longer to finish stuff. And of course the materials cost $$$..

I am envious of everyone who's having a lazy day..

I used to drink only water, slightly sweetened brewed ice tea, hot tea, and coffee. Since restarting MF, all I want is water. I bought a few diet sodas thinking I'd drink them, but I don't want them at all. We have nice tasting well water, so that helps, the water at my old place tasted like it came from the municipal pool on an overcrowded day...

Zoe - Too funny about the outbuildings matching. Where do you live?.

You are lucky to have good well water. AZ water is pretty crappy so we have a cooler. We go through about 6 5 gallon bottles a month, which I can thankfully refill at my produce store for $.25/gallon. I average 120 oz a day plus coffee and Diet Pepsi and occasionally, if I am grazing for something to snack on at night, I' have an A&W Diet Creme Soda which does the trick. I've found that after a while, the more water you drink, the more your body craves it...

Oops, I didn't pay attention last night, and didn't realize there was a thread started everyday. So I'm going to re-post what I wrote on last night's thread..

I love hearing that De about your great success on a cruise.

I know, I know I can do it too!! I wasn't planning on doing the 4 & 2, but maybe I I plan to be working out in the mornings, plus all the walking and swimming and stuff. Maybe I'll just see how I feel, and if I really feel like I'm not getting enough food with the extra activities, then I'll do the 4&2. Glad you brought it to my attention. thanks de. I'll figure it out. And have a good plan going in...

I love what was said yesterday re your boots...."holy hotness"!! They do look fabulous. What an inspiration you are... for me to get back to my former hottie version :-) I wanna wear some cool boots too again..

Heading out for the day in the sunshine, going to the zoo with my husband. Hmmm, and not to put him in a cage either...hee,hee...

Penny, my problem is that the water doesn't want to STAY in my body..

Toni - I'm still relatively new - only been OP 9 weeks. But looking over the menu I'd say you could go for the Gulf of Siam Curry or the Spicy String Beans with added Chicken. You'll have to look up all the different seafood itesm in the Gulf of Siam Curry and see if there's anything you need to eat around, and of course you wouln't eat rice with either dish. Look like they are both wok fried, but at least they're not breaded. I would ask them to use no oil if possible, or at least minimize the amount of oil they use (and then you don't eat any other fat for the day). When I've eaten at Thai restaurants before the curry is usually a very thin sauce, so I would probably just fish the meat out of the sauce and eat as little of the sauce as possible..

You might also just consider having the Chicken Satay and don't eat the sauce. And just have a "green" at home before or after your meal. Of course it is marinated, so not sure about that..

Alternatively, you could just ask them to prepare just about any of the ingredients from the menu in a different way..

Maybe someone else could give you better suggestions. I don't see many good options here. GOOD LUCK..

I'm surprised after all this time that your body hasn't adjusted. I've always guzzled water and I average around 4 hours. Definitely makes it easier. I would probably lose my mind if I had to go every 5 minutes...

That may possibly be the first menu I've ever seen without a single Medifast friendly option. Yikes! The best I could see would possibly be one of the salads if you could get dressing on the side. You could always call ahead and see if they offer steamed veggies or saucless/unfried protein of some kind...

Go to L and G: First I should say that I split my L&G 99% of the time I was on 5+1..

Tuna: 1 can, 2 tbsp of fresh salsa (deduct from G) and a 1/2 serv of light mayo..

I would make 2 of these. One for lunch and one for dinner. I usually added the remaining green to dinner. It made my life so much more normal to have a normal lunch and a normal dinner and still be 100% on plan. I did this more days than I can count over the 8 months. Fact is, this is still a go to lunch for me..

I also make a chili with one pack of ground turkey, one can of diced tomato and Mrs. Dash. It is mostly meat, but packed full of protein, filling and very on plan. Just add the rest of your green to it...

You aren't the only one! I just keep thinking about all those fat molecules that are broken down when you have enough water to fuel the chemical reaction. Every time I flush I am flushing them away!..

Hey TLers! For those of you who have done the 4 & 2, what's the calorie range to stick within?..

I was still able to stick within the guidelines of 1000 calories and 100 carbs...

Toni~ looks like they have halibut on the menu... ask for it grilled, no sauces please.. salt and pepper only. Steamed veggies, no sauces please. Ice water with a wedge of lemon. I eat out when I'm on the road, most places are happy to cook to your specs (if they speak english). I kinda like being high maintenance..

Hi everyone! Had an interesting day shopping. Dd and I got to the mall at 10a when I was scheduled to have a bar... so while she was off getting her eyebrows done, I pulled a S'mores bar out of my pocket and enjoyed every bite! So happy! I bought myself some silly earrings to celebrate 10 days OP and my dd got some rain boots. She's a dear - I had to make her stop at a Friendlys on the way home.... because I thought my poor bladder was going to burst! I haven't adjusted in the slightest!!!.

Dh is home from work so we'll probably do a bit more shopping tonight because tomorrow is our do nothing day. He's on to the fact that I am not doing WW anymore. But he doesn't really care as long as I eat dinner with him - easy as he likes fish too (phew!)..

I LOVE scallops, so I'm excited about broiling some up tonight for dinner... I swear, sometimes I just have to pinch myself, I'm so overjoyed not to be.

Compulsively overeating crap foods - and I get to eat.

- how cool is THAT? Just saying!..

Barb - thanks for celebrating my NSV! I'll be posting on Monday to report the actual victory!.

Connor - I'm glad I could be a role model for you about staying OP and even losing while traveling. Defnitely helps to have a mini-fridge in the room and bake the brownie cookies, etc. in advance. I would know each day that the cookie was waiting for me if I was a good girl all day. I'm going to call the hotel in Atlanta to make sure there's a fridge in that room. If not, sometimes they'll put one in the room for a daily fee - fine by me.

I'm not looking forward to another week on the road, but at least there is only going to be one hour time difference and I have some success to build on now. I know I can make it...

It's between 1000 and 1200, same carb range. De has super powers not all of us aspire to...

I was just thinking that!! Thanks for the info ladies. It's funny, when I do the 4 & 2 I have a really hard time getting my carb range up to 80. Most of the time it wants to hover at 72 or so...

Do you tend to eat lower carb veggies when you do 4&2? I'm such a carbophob when on 5&1 that if I go 4&2 I eat mostly lettuce, cucumbers and celery. hehe...

We're in Northern Maryland, in a little one stoplight town about an hour north of Baltimore. We've got two little acres in the woods at the edge of a big state park. I absolutely love my home. It's a teensy little rancher peeking out of the forest...
