Got a question... What is a free iPage web host that allows you to embed documents? Thanks for any answer or 2. My other question... Hello everyone,.

Well, I was fooling around with the page headings contrib. and I'm having several problems..

1.) There are little n's running across the top of my category pages which correspond to the number of sub-categories I have under it. That's the most apparent problem..

2.) The category headings and sub-category headings echo just fine until you get to the last few categories where the words are now gone (Let's see what we have here), but there is no category text, and there is still a broken image with alt text titled "let's see what we have here"..

I made changes only to the /catalog/index.php page, and I followed the Contrib. but I must have made a mistake somewhere..

Here's what I'm asking for: (O:.

1.) Does anyone have a plain copy of the index.php file so I can just upload that file and then start over?.

OR.

2.) If need be I can post the text file of the index.php page and perhaps someone can spot the boo-boo?.

Thanks for everyone's help. I really appreciate it. I'm very new to Php coding so I'm sorry if this is a "newbie" error. I know my way around HTML, but it'll take a while to get the hang of Php. (o:.

I'm stumped. I'm not so sure what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I bump into an decent answer. You should email the people at iPage as they probably can answer it..

Yes, I used the Admin file manager so that must be the problem..

I installed from my web host so I don't have the files on my PC. So, I will definitely take your advice and keep a copy of everything on my system..

I appreciate all of your help..

ISSUE:.

Display shows the 'n' character in index page when categories are selected..

You have edited the index.php using the online file manager which has removed the \ backslashes from the code, this is a known issue with using the file manager to edit files, it is better to use an ftp program such as ws_ftp to download the file and edit it locally then ftp back to the server..

FIX:.

To fix this issue you will need to find the 4 instances of "n"; on your index.php and change them to "\n";.

Around line #104 look for this code.

While ($categories = tep_db_fetch_array($categories_query)) {.

     $rows++;.

     $cPath_new = tep_get_path($categories['categories_id']);.

     $width = (int)(100 / MAX_DISPLAY_CATEGORIES_PER_ROW)'%';.

     echo '                <td align="center" class="smallText" width="'$width'" valign="top"><a href="'tep_href_link(FILENAME_DEFAULT, $cPath_new)'">'tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES$categories['categories_image'], $categories['categories_name'], SUBCATEGORY_IMAGE_WIDTH, SUBCATEGORY_IMAGE_HEIGHT)'<br>'$categories['categories_name']'</a></td>'"n";.

     if ((($rows / MAX_DISPLAY_CATEGORIES_PER_ROW) == floor($rows / MAX_DISPLAY_CATEGORIES_PER_ROW)) && ($rows != $number_of_categories)) {.

       echo '              </tr>'"n";.

       echo '              <tr>'"n";.

     }.

   }.

Change to this.

While ($categories = tep_db_fetch_array($categories_query)) {.

     $rows++;.

     $cPath_new = tep_get_path($categories['categories_id']);.

     $width = (int)(100 / MAX_DISPLAY_CATEGORIES_PER_ROW)'%';.

     echo '                <td align="center" class="smallText" width="'$width'" valign="top"><a href="'tep_href_link(FILENAME_DEFAULT, $cPath_new)'">'tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES$categories['categories_image'], $categories['categories_name'], SUBCATEGORY_IMAGE_WIDTH, SUBCATEGORY_IMAGE_HEIGHT)'<br>'$categories['categories_name']'</a></td>'"\n";.

     if ((($rows / MAX_DISPLAY_CATEGORIES_PER_ROW) == floor($rows / MAX_DISPLAY_CATEGORIES_PER_ROW)) && ($rows != $number_of_categories)) {.

       echo '              </tr>'"\n";.

       echo '              <tr>'"\n";.

     }.

   }.

And then around line #256 look for this code.

While ($filterlist = tep_db_fetch_array($filterlist_query)) {.

         $options[] = array('id' => $filterlist['id'], 'text' => $filterlist['name']);.

       }.

       echo tep_draw_pull_down_menu('filter_id', $options, (isset($HTTP_GET_VARS['filter_id']) ? $HTTP_GET_VARS['filter_id'] : ''), 'onchange="this.form.submit()"');.

       echo '</form></td>'"n";.

     }.

   }.

And change to this.

While ($filterlist = tep_db_fetch_array($filterlist_query)) {.

         $options[] = array('id' => $filterlist['id'], 'text' => $filterlist['name']);.

       }.

       echo tep_draw_pull_down_menu('filter_id', $options, (isset($HTTP_GET_VARS['filter_id']) ? $HTTP_GET_VARS['filter_id'] : ''), 'onchange="this.form.submit()"');.

       echo '</form></td>'"\n";.

     }.

   }..

Wow Steve,.

Thanks for giving me all the coding samples..

It will help me out tremendously as I can't get my program to unzip the tar.gz file from the release download..

I will go ahead and maintain this iPage site using an FTP program as you suggested..

Thanks again for the help and tips..

Well, I used an FTP program, downloaded the index.php file and changed all the instances of "n" to "/n". I uploaded the file and the changes are in place - however, I'm still getting the same output from the store. I refreshed the pages, but the "n"s are still there..

Related Questions:.

My host server runs Linux/Unix and my PC run on windows. Is that why the Linux package won't decompile when I download it?.

I feel rather foolish at this point. I don't know if my brain is on the fritz today or what, but this is giving me a headache..

All I want to do now is download a clean index.php file - and I can't even get it to unzip! UGH!.

Sorry if I'm whining now... just getting really frustrated. In all my years of programming HTML and managing websites I have never had this much trouble trying to change a simple page header or even fix an error. Is this common in Php programming?.

I'm very impressed with the functionality of the end result, and I know it's a complicated program by necessity, but as design is my forte I'm really annoyed with the amount of coding needed to change one little bitty thing on the site..

Anyway, I'm just crabbing now. I really do appreciate all the help though. (o:.

May be it is just a typo.

Should be..

DOH! I'll try that - you're probably right..

Thanks for taking the time to point that out..

Must be the brain today! (o;.

If you used the admin file manager to edit the file, it corrupted it. Don't use the admin file manager (in fact, I have deleted it from my store as a security risk.).

You can download the osC distribution which has all the files. In fact, you SHOULD do this so that you have a reference copy on your local system. You should also keep a local copy of all your iPage site files as modified by you. Having your only copy be on the server is just asking for trouble...
