Question I have... What web iPage hosting service hosts Google? Looking forward for any response. Second question of mine... Hi everyone,.

My problem is this........when I change the text on the index.php page I get an error. It has something to do with parse code and line thirteen. I believe that line thirteen is where define is. I don't remember exactly what the error was, but I get it even if I remove an existing letter..

This is the area that I want to change:.

(13?)define('TEXT_MAIN', 'This is a default setup of the osCommerce project, products shown are for demonstrational purposes, <b>any products purchased will not be delivered nor will the customer be billed</b>. Any information seen on these products is to be treated as fictional.<br><br><table border="0" width="100%" cellspacing="5" cellpadding="2"><tr><td class="main" valign="top">'tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES'default/1.gif')'</td><td class="main" valign="top"><b>Error Messages</b><br><br>If there are any error or warning messages shown above, please correct them first before proceeding.<br><br>Error messages are displayed at the very top of the page with a complete <span class="messageStackError">background</span> color.<br><br>Several checks are performed to ensure a healthy setup of your online store - these checks can be disabled by editing the appropriate parameters at the bottom of the includes/application_top.php file.</td></tr><td class="main" valign="top">'tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES'default/2.gif')'</td><td class="main" valign="top"><b>Editing Page Texts</b><br><br>The text shown here can be modified in the following file, on each language basis:<br><br><nobr class="messageStackSuccess">[path to catalog]/includes/languages/'$language'/'FILENAME_DEFAULT'</nobr><br><br>That file can be edited manually, or via the Administration Tool with the <nobr class="messageStackSuccess">Languages->'ucfirst($language)'->Define</nobr> or <nobr class="messageStackSuccess">Tools->File Manager</nobr> modules.<br><br>The text is set in the following manner:<br><br><nobr>define('TEXT_MAIN', '<span class="messageStackSuccess">This is a default setup of the osCommerce project...</span>');</nobr><br><br>The text highlighted in green may be modified - it is important to keep the define() of the TEXT_MAIN keyword. To remove the text for TEXT_MAIN completely, the following example is used where only two single quote characters exist:<br><br><nobr>define('TEXT_MAIN', '');</nobr><br><br>More information concerning the PHP define() function can be read <a href="http://www.php.net/define" target="_blank"><u>here</u></a>.</td></tr>.

<tr><td class="main" valign="top">'tep_image(DIR_WS_IMAGES'default/3.gif')'</td><td class="main" valign="top"><b>Online Documentation</b><br><br>Online documentation can be read at the <a href="http://wiki.oscommerce.com" target="_blank"><u>osCommerce Wiki Documentation Effort</u></a> site.<br><br>Community support is available at the <a href="http://forums.oscommerce.com" target="_blank"><u>osCommerce Community Support Forums</u></a> site.</td></tr></table>.

Even if I only take the T of of This to make it his I get the error. Can anyone tell me why..

I am starting to understand php, but have a long way to go. So at this point I only want to learn how to change text..

Thanks for all the help in advance. Terri..

Good question... I dunno what is the answer to that question. I'll do some research and get back to you if I bump into an good answer. You should email the people at iPage as they probably could give you help..

I have been trying to change it in File Manager. Would it work if I did it via notepad?.

File Manager "should" work, but there are quite a few stories in the forums of people that have had various problems that way..

I would recommend using a FTP program to access the file and use Notepad or, better yet, a PHP editor program (I use phpCoder, a free download)..

The Best Practice.

Download the file using FTP. Make a backup copy of the file. Open the file in your PHP editor (or Notepad) and make the edits. Then save it and upload it back to the server using the FTP program, overwriting the original..

The Fast Way (not recommended).

Most FTP programs will let you double click the file while it is still on the server and it will download it and open it in the program you have associated with PHP file types. When you finish editing it, click save and then close the editing program. The FTP program will then upload the file back to the server...

Terri - if this is the full line you are showing then you are missing the closing ');. The basic form is.

Define('some name', 'some text');.

Yours doesn't end that way. Could be that you just clipped it when copying but if not, that is your problem..

I noticed at the end your missing.

');.

Would would cause a parse Error.

Is whould be.

Define('TEXT_MAIN', 'This is a default setup of the osCommerce project, products shown are for demonstrational purposes, <b>any products purchased will not be delivered nor will the customer be billed</b>. [B][I][FONT=Times][SIZE=5][COLOR=red]Thank you all for the help. I didn't copy the whole code. That probably explains the reason for missing code. GraphicsGuy I will try your idea and I will look for that program you mentioned..

Thanks again, Terri..

How are you making the changes? For example, using File Manager or downloading/editing in Notepad/uploading, or Frontpage. If the latter then that would be a problem...
