Good question... I dunno what is the answer. I'll do some investigation and get back to you if I got an answer. You should email the people at 123 reg as they probably could answer your 123 reg question..
Very nice post. Sum's it up very well. Just a slight modification as there needs to be a position weighted ranking...
Different people wold give you different view. Here is the scrabble's view:.
Note that you need to average over all languages...
Position is sometimes important, as you say, first letter "A" in particular, because so many things list domains in alphabetical order. Then there are the currently trendy Consonant/Vowel/Consonant/Vowel (CVCV) names, and those ending in -co, for company. Double letters may be slightly better if adjacent, although that difference is small..
I have noticed that often domains wth the worst letter last are the last to go in their group...
I don't know why some people don't like X. I like it a lot..
Maybe there aren't many companies starting with that letter, but I can remember many times the X is used: X Men, Malcolm X, etc etc.
As for the numbers, in domains, I think 7 is the best, because it means 7 days a week, and the lucky 7. As a group, maybe 24 is even better...
I guess it depends on what your looking for as so many domains are including letters and numbers combos. Now does the number 1 fit better as the best number just relating to what the phones do. i.e. A1 airconditioning or 1a Airconditioning gets to be higher in the book and does that concept work in.
I don't know..
You tell me what you think..
But I do agree on the strength of the number # 7.
