Question I have... Which diet styles (ex. Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem) work the best? Thanks for any response. Another question on my mind: I was an athletic 185 when I got married with maybe 3% body fat..

By the time I divorced 15 years later I was 285 pounds..

I didn't really notice the weight gain, believe it or not. I did notice that I was sweating a little bit more, but didn't really pay much attention to it..

One day, while I was in the office, my vision started blurring a little, so I made an appointment to go to my doctor because that wasn't "normal" - when I got there, my blood pressure was 205/175..

My Dr. and long time friend looked at me and said, I could put you on meds, but honestly, the best advice that I can give you is to get up off your fat behind and excercise..

I took his advice to heart..

I reduced my caloric intake to 1200 calories/day and would do an intense 1000 calorie work out every night. (I hate excercising, so my goal was to get this done with as quickly as possible.).

I stopped at 223 and my blood pressure dropped to about 150/95..

Right now, we've added a med to help bring the pressure down, but Doc believes that if I continue to excercise and lose the weight, I may be able to come off the meds all together!.

Right now, I'm sitting at about 237 (I've maintained 230-235 for about 2 years...) and now it's time for my to make that final push to 185. My goal weight..

I've been impressed with what I've heard about NS, and love the community and support here..

I'm hoping to be a success story and looking forward to being inspired by you guys..

I'm targetting a start date of 1/4/10.....

That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I bump into an useful answer. You should email the people at Nutrisystem as they probably could give you help..

This program rocks. It is fun. Like a sport..

Interact a lot on the boards (not just Men's room, but Food Tips and Challenges). It will help you. Avoid the "yack threads" where the women just share how their day went. But talk a lot about your diet, exercise, nutrition..

Good luck and go hard core. I love watching people succeed!..

Acoustic - Welcome! Nice to have you aboard. Just one question, why wait? Why not start today? Sorry, I guess that two questions...

Hey Rick... I'm waiting for things to be delivered. Both my work out program and Nutrisystem are scheduled to be here on the 4th..

In the mean time, I've been eating healthy... drinking more water... and mentally preparing.....

You have selected the program that will make it happen..

You will wish you did this from the start since you could have avoided all the exercise.

As you begin NS, please be careful about burning too many calories working out without adding additional food..

I believe that most of us have experienced the best results by having a 300 calories per day deficit. It gives your body enough food to not shutdown but instead burn the extra fat..

Remember you are in this long term, so getting there quickly isn't the goal..

You want to position yourself for long term success, so think of this as a life style not a diet!.

Welcome and best of luck,.

Thanks for the advise, Clark! I will definately keep that in mind!..

Welcome. Trust me, this plan works. Better yet, the things it teaches you can be applied to our daily approach to feeding ourselves once the goal is attained. Stick with and always plan ahead and you will get the results you want...

BWV, disagree with your energy math. You are either messing up the number or using a different definition of "deficit" (and the definition is simple: energy consumed minus that supplied...the remainder being fat burn nescessarily)..

300 calories/day deficit is 2100/week. 2100/3500 ~ 2/3 of a pound a week. I think most men run much more than 300 calories/day deficit!.

I lost 3#/week, which equated to a 1500 calorie/day deficit...

Good luck acoustic (guitar?)..

Your story sound like mine. I was 185 16 years ago - 48 inch chest 33 inch waist - you get the pic. I went up to 265..

I've lost almost 40 lbs the past 3 months- simply sticking to the plan and doing aerobic type activities....

Good luck, look for advice and tips on the mens room forums. ways to start off and drink the water, etc. you'll succeed. don't expect it to be a cakewalk - you'll have bumps, etc, but in the long run it will come off...

You are correct about my math...n0t sure what I was thinking about..

During my weight loss period, I was averaging about 2.5 - 3 lbs per week (.4 lbs per day) which would be about 1400 calories per day..

I have never tried to count calories while on or after NS..

I have been maintaining just be slowing adding food back to the Nutrisystem plan until I stopped losing weight..

Thanks for catching that!.

Excellent - I strum a bit, bit not enough to call myself above amatuer - anyhow, good luck - you are in good company here - same goals - a bunch of losers we hope..

Welcome, Acoustic!!.

My stats were similar - Very low BF% at 185 in HS. Steady climb to over 300 lb fatso in my 50's. Recently got back into 32 jeans. What a KICK!! Nutrisystem really does work and it should also help with your BP as well. It provides a very well balanced, moderately low sodium diet..

Thanks Gordon... looking at your chart helps me see the possibilities!.

I should send you a link to some of my music Bob... get your opinions!..

Hey - Post the link if you can. My wife is a pianist, I've got a recording set-up, and we've got stuff out there too. I prefer recording acoustic instruments. Piano, guitar, harp, etc. Some samples on our site (in sig) w/some acoustic guitar on our "recording services" page. Sorry for the broken pic links on that page.
