That's a good question. I'm not sure what is the answer. I'll do some research and get back to you if I find an answer. You should email the people at iPage as they probably know..

Thanks Johnk.

I can get here.

Index of /~lkmerch/cgi-bin.

Entropybanner.cgi 05-May-2004 20:32 3k.

Apache/1.3.29 Server at cadillac.elinuxservers.com Port 80.

And then I can get here:.

Cgi-bin/ 05-May-2004 20:32 -.

Oscommerce/ 07-May-2004 20:04 -.

Postinfo.html 05-May-2004 21:43 2k.

Apache/1.3.29 Server at cadillac.elinuxservers.com Port 80.

And then I can also get to catalog if I click on oscommerce..

You see the problem I had was I had crud bolcking the first place and could not get here..

So, I got rid of it..

Now, what do I do? How do I get rid of the example stuff and place my own stuff on it and how do I get it to pop up instead of the index page?..

Ted, I'm even more confused now..

I haven't loaded osCommerce on a hosted server for over a year so I can't remember the actual paths to use..

One thing I do know, osCommerce does not go in the cgi-bin. I think that directory is reserved for Perl and other cgi scripts. As such, I'm not sure if PHP can actually access the cgi-bin. I can't test it on my machine because I don't have cgi implemented..

OSC shold be loaded in the server's root directory or a path off the root directory such as /catalog.

Therefore I suggest you uninstall everything and just copy the entire OSC "catalog" folder to the server root. Then you should be able to enter:.

If it's in the root directory, you should be able to type:.

And oscommerce should run..

If you loaded the catalog folder in the root directory, it would be:.

(Which I quess, would be the preferred way to do it)..

OSC will then display an install screen which asks for the database name, user and password for the database..

Provided you have a database and you've entered the OSC mysql dump provided in the package, you should have a successful install..

If this comment:.

"Now, what do I do? How do I get rid of the example stuff and place my own stuff on it and how do I get it to pop up instead of the index page? ".

Means that OSC is actually running and you can access the sample data, you can change everything in the database by going to:.

And start replacing the sample data with yours..

Somehow I don't think you've reached that point from what I'm able to read into your reply...

Thank Jonhk.

Let me try to explain. I opened an account with hostradius.com and then installed osC form them and it aotomaticly loadded it into my www file folder. I have not made a main page( basicly not sure how) I have since unloadded the reloaded and it keeps putting it in the same place. When I use the file manager, I'm not able to find the catalog file. I have premissions set for my whole iPage site to 777 just to be able to make things easier for me while I play around triing new things and exploring this new site..

I have no clue about the " new langue" since I gotten out of school. I was taught cobalt on a PDP311 Digital mainframe that took up the whole 3rd floor of the computer science building..

So I guess you could say I'm an old fart..

Where would I find the catalog file in osC to move it ? .

Hostradius provides me with MySQL database and phpMYadmin and PostgreSQL database..

Well on second thought here.

And you can see all the files..

If you tell me to make a main page and use FTp I'll have no clue. I know what it is but dont know how to use it..

Yue see I have a merchandiseing company where I sell over 4k items at wholesale and retail to the globe. Just getting started though and want to be "online" I know a little bit about meta tages and have played around with some premade store fronts. But thats all I know..

Any help would be greatly welcomed and maybe rewarded with some huge discounts like items at my cost. If you or anyone can help...

Spend a few days juust reading this forum. If more people did that rather than just plunging into the s/w there'd be lots fewer questions here..

...and I'd bet they'd get their stores going just as fast or faster because they'd be able to answer many of their own questions. With a lot of people it seems they're in constant "panic" mode, find a problem, run to the board, wait for help...

Oh well....

I think my main problem is that they haven't registared my iPage domain yet..

But, I did find the admin area but had to use the IP and enter everything manually to get there..

So Iguess I cant do anything till then. Should be Monday when banks open...if they open... it's election day..

And knowing this small town they will even roll up the sidewalks.

But I did see the config area where I can set up everything form my store to email and billing languege and all. It looks easy from there( so I hope)...

Hi alenR.

I thank you for your post. And have spent two weeks reading through all the posts I thought would point me in the right directon. Have learnd qiute alot about the problems others where having and hope to be able to use the help offered there. When I encounter those problems. I had believed at one time that the problem was due to the fact that I might have the old version but that was not the case. And Had believed that the problem was that it loaded wrong, and again that was not the case.

And this problem is the fact that my iPage domain has not been registerd yet, prevents me from doing anything due to the update buttons keep kicking me to my iPage domain name instead of the Ip address where I have to work from. Or through ...whatever..

A big problem I have is not knowing what my problems are and therefor can not search for the answer without reading through all the posts and with over 25k posts on this iPage site it gets quite flustrating..

Keep up the good work! I have read serveral of your posts and found them very good, hope to find more of yours as I continue my drawn out search of all the posts...

I've installed it several times on my local host and it's pretty painless. It takes about 5 minutes or less. Can you access the main catalog? Do you actually see the catalog? Are there any error messages? Do you have a MYSQL database running and communicating with OSC. It's a bit difficult to say what the problem is with the information you supplied...
