Which is better on the Medifast Diet? The Points Plan or the Core Plan?

Question I have... Which is better on the Medifast Diet? The Points Plan or the Core Plan? Many thanks for any response. Another question on my mind: Medifast is a wonderful program with many different types of support and a fabulous community. We understand that everyone is an adult and this is not a "mean" group. For some of us, we thrive on this program if we have a place where we are held accountable, where we commit to the program 100% and where we have a place to chat with others who feel the same..

What we believe:.

1. Cheating on Medifast is NOT a strategy to get us out of our fat suits.

2. The only way for us to learn about our problems with food is to take the word "choice" out of the equation when it comes to Medifast. Our only "choice" is 5 packets and 1 weighed and measured lean and green a day.

3. We look to those who have been successful with this strategy to continuously remind us about why this way, for us, is the way to go.

4. We believe that, even though we are completely committed, knowing that we have a group that holds us accountable for our actions is both useful and important.

We commit to:.

1. Remove the word "choice" from our vocabularies.

2. Follow the Medifast plan as written, including transition and maintenance.

3. Tell our "inner brat" to shut the H-E-** up and quiet him or her through abstenance from off plan foods.

4. Give and receive tough love without complaining or calling each other "mean".

5. Cheerlead fellow group members as they follow the path to thinness.

6. Make Medifast the LAST diet we ever go on.

7. Check in with the group as often as our schedule reasonably allows.

Getting the banner:.

1. Copy the following text using your favorite method:.

[IMG*]http://i851.photobucket.com/albums/ab74/pennosh/ToughLove.jpg[/IMG*].

2. Click on the "Edit Profile/Settings" link at the top of this page.

3. Click on the "Edit Signature" link on the left of the page.

4. Place your cursor in the "Edit Signature" area (looks like a mini version of Microsoft Word) and paste the text you copied using your favorite method.

5. Remove the two asterisks (*) from the text you just pasted.

6. Click "preview signature". You should now see the banner in the Preview area (above where you are editing)!!!.

7. Click the "Save Signature" button. If you do not, all this will have been for naught! So make SURE you save this after you are all set!.

Anyone is welcome to join, and if folks have additional ideas on how we can commit, I am happy to hear them!..

Good question... I dunno what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I bump into an good answer. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably could help you..

Freya, sorry to hear that but perhaps it is for the best? Who knows there are many men out there, as you are finding out! Keep on looking, and having fun!!!!!! And you know there are the games you could play with Mr Mortician, 3 hr drive boy has nothin' on him in this realm. Just sayin'..

Marilee, you naughty baggage! I say it again, so everyone of you tawdry minded people can hear me:.

THERE WILL BE NO ROLE PLAYING WITH THE MORTICIAN. NONE. EVER..

*giggle*..

Sure.....

Wink, wink..

I must go to bed now, I have my first day of teaching in over a month tomorrow!..

Morning..

Just finished watching 'Heavy'.

Anyone see it?.

Freya, I tend to think things happen for a reason, so if the Favorite is supposed to be the one in the end, he will be..

But.........

If the mortician is to be the guy, well your description of him sounds great..

You are a great gal, and deserve to be treated that way...

Good morning!.

Freya - smart move. You're worth the extra attention and gifts!.

Chatty - never heard of "Heavy". What's it about?.

Marilees - just caught up on the thread from yesterday and I'm also amazed at the thought processes of some people about losing weight. I'm with Chatty - I chose Monday as my weigh in day to keep me honest on the weekends. Which reminds me - I need to update my ticker from yesterday..

Getting a cold here. Swollen glands, stuffy head.........YUCK.

I'm sure I got it from the Boat Show this weekend. Lots of little kids w/snotty noses running around AND not being monitored by their parents. I saw one kid sitting and kicking a cabinet door on a $200k boat.

While his mom just sat there and ignored him. My mom would have SMACKED me good..

Congrats on all the losses so far this week. This is definitely a good group to stick with during the journey. No kissy face, unicorn farts here. Just pure honesty and TL support...

Morning, all! I'm off to work earlly and in back to back meetings all day again, so no fun for me today. boo......

Morning all, about to start my first meeting of a day full of training. Weeeeeeee...... No steamed broccoli though! Yay for a happy start to the day...

No internet this weekend - but...weighing in yesterday showed a loss of 1.8 pounds. So a little over a pound after I really concentrated on getting my water in. YEAH!.

I know, I know. No chopped tofu, but I'm outta here!..

Good morning, TLG! Another snow day here today. Most would be happy for that. For me, it means driving an extra 30 minutes and paying $30 on top of it. Emmas thrilled, though, that she gets to play in the snow AND go swimming at the Y!.

Marilee, yes, I did see your note about the Matcha green tea I have three canisters of tea that I have to use now, though, before I buy any more! I have an infuser at work, too, so Ill bring some to stash in my desk..

Freya, just wait until one of you gives the other the silent treatment itll come up! Thanks for starting us up, BTW..

Im not moving too quickly this morning, purely because Im sick and tired of the snow already. Its gotten a little depressing. Sure, it's pretty, sure it's life in the northeast, blah blah blah. Im cold and last weeks little slide off the road, it's just not as fun as it used to be..

Hopefully it will be a quiet day in the office. Not likely since they all drive gigantic 4WD vehicles and their wives stay home with their kids when schools closed..

Off to save the day! See yas at the office!..

Morning gang..

Feeling off and cranky today, no particular reason why. Hate days like that..

Penny - You really need to come out here for a long weekend and get you some warmth and sunshine. Plenty of both here to go around..

I have already forgotten everything I just read. Coffee just doesn't seem to be cutting it today. Hugs to everyone and no chopped tofu. I'll be back when I'm more coherent...

May I join you all? This is my kind of thinking.

..

I'm in week 10, have lost 28 lbs and am hoping to surprise my dh when he gets back from Iraq in the spring. (I didn't tell him I was doing this). I wish I'd found this a long long time ago.

My biggest push that I need is to drink my water!..

Good morning, TLers. What a nasty drive to work today!! Icy, rainy glad to be sitting at my desk with my car in one piece. Hope the temps rise for the commute home..

I'm not sure what my lose was last week, but I'm down 4.8 #s for the past two weeks. Clothes are fitting better. Whew..

No chopped tofu. BBL..

Morning TL'ers.....

Yup I'm in the snow too. Made it into work and the building is empty. I guess noone else wanted to venture out in it..

Freya-If you are feeling it right now with the mortician then being up front with 3 hour dude is the way to go..

I will see if I can HULU heavy. I think I have some free time here today.

Long 3 days-we painted from 7 am until late at night all weekend. And no end in sight yet. Got my SIL to give me some input...

Hi Anna, Get that water in. Sounds like the hubs is going to be in for a heck of a suprise. That is pretty sweet..

After an hour of white knuckling it, I made it, too, in one piece. The office seems quiet... except for the giant 4WD set. I was exhausted by the time I got here!.

De, I'm in a funk today, too. I'm just tired and need a vacation. If I can't get that cruise, maybe a trip to AZ is in order. OMG - we'd have a blast..

Anna, what a thoughtful surprise for your hubby! And such motivation for you! Try to keep a big cup or water bottle in the bathroom. Fill it and drink it first thing in the morning and last thing at night. I also blend a cup of ice into my shakes occasionally. It's still a cup of water, whether it's frozen or not..

That's the closest thing to chopped tofy y'all are gonna get from me this morning. I'm going to dive head first into asteaming hot cup of strong black tea and try to wake up...

Penny-Be super careful, it is going to ice up too. I just got word my campus is closing at 1 so I can go home and cuddle in..

I am a huge tea drinker too. I make it by the pot and usually have 3 or 4 pots a day in addition to my water. What are some of everyone's favorite teas. I can use some new flavor ideas. I love Tazo tea. The lemon is my all time favorite..

Right now I'm just having good old Lipton loose tea (orange pekoe & black), but I bought Twinings Gunpowder Green at Fresh Markets and it's really good. I also love Bigelow Constant Comment - haven't seen it in loose form yet. In Crossgates Mall, there's a store called Teavana. They have wonderful teas, but some are quite expensive...

Oooooh, I just went to the Bigelow site and they have Constant Comment loose! Geez, it doesn't take much to please this girl.....

Me either. We have a tea store up here too with lots of different loose teas. I have never tried loose tea as much as I drink tea. Pretty pricey here too. And all of my kids drink tea so we go through a ton...

Bigelow has a Green Tea that they sell at Sam's club. It's like $10 for a million or so bags. I drink it at home a lot..

Ouch, the tatas are a little sore from my upper body work-em-out yesterday! It's so much more fun now that I can SEE the muscles as I'm working them! WOOT!..

Hi guys,.

Just a quick stop in. Sorry I was MIA all of yesterday. It was NOT good. I was OP, that was fine, but the stupid 1 pound was really getting to me and I was having a "I'm fat and I don't really feel like reaching out to anyone about it, I'm just gonna make it through this day and know that if I follow the plan, I WILL lose weight"..

Well, whadduya know? TOM this morning. Mystery solved..

No chopped tofu, busy work day!..

Hi, Em! Always trust the process. It works. Period..

...sorry...

Morning, Gang!.

Another closing today- An unexpected 4-day weekend. Got a couple inches of snow & sleet overnight & it's sleeting & icing right now..

Down another pound this morning, 5.5 in 3 days. One week should definitely do the trick & get me back under 205. It's funny, the difference between 207 and 212 is pretty minimal, but I really do feel different when I get over 210..

Hi Anna- 100% is the only way to go & water is KEY. The 1 thing I tell my clients every time is "Stay on schedule & drink your water.".

Penny, good luck on booking that Anniversary cruise. I'm going to hit the travel agent today. Planning on heading to Orlando a few days early before convention & bring my Godson, Stephon, 13, to Disney..

Karen, hope you're feeling better. You southern folk aren't used to winter.

Best to the rest, no chopped baba ganoush..

Hello tough lover's- I've been lurking and reading. I've been OP for sometime. Can I join the group? I see there are a lot upstate New yorkers..

Have a great day...

Chatty: thank you, darling. Yes, I think things happen for a reason too. And if a guy isn't making me feel special and like I matter to him early on, it ain't gonna get any better!.

Karen: I appreciate it! And I've decided my new motto is "I believe in the presents." I have a small pile of them on my sofa, from recent suitors. I am trying to internalize this as something that exists in my world. After being really freakin' fat and invisible for so long, it's a big learning curve to realize I'm a shiny object. Also, I'm so sorry you're getting sick. Poo..

Anna: good morning, and welcome!!!!.

Look at your amazing progress!.

Lynne: thanks for the confirmation! While neither I nor the mortician are looking to settle down long-term, we are both Aries people and have a lot of intensity for things when they capture our attention. So I think the plan is just to burn this up and out and enjoy the ride. Wheee!.

Penny: I'm so sorry about the sore boobs. But thank you for sharing..

Mia: welcome to you too!!!.

Good morning to everyone! I'm wearing the blood coral necklace from the boy, with my SIZE SIX JEANS tucked into calf-high boots. First time for the sixes. I may be a little over the moon...

I love my size 6 low rise boot cuts. Sassy for a woman my age..

Mia! Another shortie joins the ranks, welcome!.

No other chopped tofu. Just watching the ice come down and having fun rubbing the dog down with a towel when he comes in. He loves that. Not sure it he likes watching the ice fly more than just the attention. Goofy black lab he's out in this stuff, sits in the back yard and doesn't care. LOL...

Congrats, Freya! I have a box under my bed of size six jeans - also sassy for a woman MY age - waiting, JUST waiting, for no one's butt but mine....

On a related note, the size LARGE STRETCH pants that I bought the day after Christmas are officially BANANA PANTS! Droopy drawz here!!! Now those MEDIUMS were shipped the other day...where are they? Ooooh, my tummy's gonna look SO different this time!.

Hi, Coach! Yes the cruise is a surprise, so if I see you on FB, mum's the word!..

Woot Penny on the banana pants and Freya on the 6's!!..

Hi ladies! Just checking in quick..

WTG on the smaller pants Penny and Freya!!.

Nothing really new here. ITA that I'm sick of the cold snowy weather. We are going to get dumped on again tomorrow. boo!..

Chatty, I haven't seen Heavy yet, but that's the one on A&E, true?.

The trainer on that is my best friend's old trainer from Austin. I forgot I need to set my DVR. Thanks for reminding me!!..

On the smaller jeans note....

I decided that my reward for reaching my goal is going to be a pair of designer jeans. I've never had a pair before because I hated spending the money on something at the weight I was at..

It was hard to come up with a goal reward because I'm a shopaholic and always buy everything I want..

The jeans are the only thing I can think of that I refuse to buy unless they are in a smaller size...

I wish I had a standard answer typed out in Word or something when the question about having a planned cheat day comes on board..

My blood pressure immediately goes up because I'm so against it and want to express myself, but get tired of saying the same thing over and over...

Hey All! Today is back to school for me. I slept real poor last night. SOrta sucks. Every time I have to get up at a certain time I have issues going to bed it seems. Exp after having not had to get up for a months! Oddly, I didn't even have class this morning to get up to, thats tomorrow, but I had an apt. That apt was rescheduled do to the weather.

I just got bad from the gym and I didn't consider the roads icy. They are slushy, so perhaps they were worse this am?.

SO on the subject of tea, I have been researching green tea due to it's metabolic effects and I have learned about this Matcha Green tea, which is a powdered tea. It is used in Japanese tea ceremonies. Anyway, it is suppose to have these crazy health benefits way beyond a normal green tea because you are getting the whole leaf. It is equal to 10 cups of regular green tea and is suppose to increase the metabolism by 40%. I have been drinking it daily for a few months now. It is strong.

Many people have commented on my skin and how wonderful it looks. I think it might be from the tea. It is horribly expensive..

Another favorite of mine is red tea. It is a South African root. It is suppose to also have amazing health benefits. In the summer I drink it as ice tea and it is wonderful! I always order my teas online, I think they are cheaper than buying them from a tea store locally. But I am also not supporting local businesses that way, so perhaps it is not the best?.

Anyway, welcome Mia!.

Congrats Freya and penny for the smaller pants!.

Sorry to hear that De and Penny are in funks today. I am in one too, sorta. But hopefully it will improve...

Chickie, me, too - I usually wear Levi's or GAP jeans. I would love to go and get a pair of pretty designer jeans... I don't want to spend $200, but I'd like to find a great pair that feels good and makes my butt look amazing! What are some brands that you are looking at? I won't even consider them unless they're a 6...

I agree that I will not go higher than a 6. I'm not really sure what kind I will look at yet. I will need to try on a bunch of different kinds because I have an extremely flat azz, so it will take just the right pair...

"Hello, world! I just want to let you know that on Tuesday next, I plan to FAIL on my diet. FYI, and Cheerio! (Oh, and BTW, since we're all just besties here, I know you're going to give me big ole attagirls on this, and no one will be a big mean internet poo-head about it.)"..

Just popping in to say hi and congrats Chickie and Penny!.

I think my goal reward will be a fitted suit. I hate them now and refuse to buy expensive ones. I have wanted a J Crew suit FOREVER and have promised myself one at goal..

One day at a time.....

De, that means YOU, you big mean internet poo-head you...

I'm off to brave the roads, kids. Keep your fingers crossed and send me some TLG mojo for the drive...

Penny. I have no words..

*shaking head, stumbling a little*..

What to go Freya!!! I am behind you 100%..

See everyone? Marilee gets what it means to be a 100%-er...

Chickie, I was making fun of people who announce their upcoming planned cheats. I am not going off plan on Tuesday, or any other day, prior to squeaking my formerly fat a55 across the goal finish line...

I thought it wasn't off-plan if you announce it beforehand?.

I hate water..

I want to shove a sock into the throat of a coworker who has an amazingly grating voice..

Yes, having a cranky day. Reading this thread should improve it though...now come on! Entertian me! Make me smile!..

*nods* Right. But not all the newbies know that..

DANCE, MONKEY, DANCE!!!..

Phew, good to know. I was trying to think of something to discourage you from it...

Spoiled brat moment: I want asparagus for dinner tonight but the roads are icy (not snowy. icy. ::cry:: ).

Turned introspection: Had you told me I would like something like asparagus 15-20 years ago, I would have thought you were crazy..

Turned slightly snark: This also shows that you HAVE to develop your palate in order to enjoy food you didn't really like before. None of this whiny "I don't like vegetables" or "I'm a picky eater" baloney. I used to be that way too. But it's hard to ignore the volume you can get from vegetables that are low fat, low cal, and moderate carb...

Braved the icy roads, in my new JUKE, I might add. Love that buggy.

Booked 3 days at Disney for me & Stephon. Contemporary Tower with a Park view (Space Mt & the Castle) and the mono-rail right through the lobby. Have always wanted to stay there.

Now, just have to survive through the rest of this winter.....

Penny- your secret is safe with me (mum, mum, mum)..

OK spoiled brat - What does the road conditions have to do with asparagus? Take it you have none? hehe..

I'm the same way. I am eating veggies now that I would have never considered pre-MF. I still won't eat veggies that "mush", but give as long as they have some "crisp" left in them, I find I like just about anything. It's a texture thing..

Sounds cool Coach..

I made real brownies, triple berry muffins and pizza rolls for a house full teens. I did not eat a one! Oh yeah and banana bread! So Happy with myself!.

Now it's time to shower and get ready to brave the Northway to work. Oh the joys of Winter..

Have a great night!..

YES. Tuesday is restocking day for the week. Thanks for rubbing that in! ::flounces out of the room in fine 15-year-old fashion, she who can't be reasoned with::..

Congrats on the smaller pants everyone.

Coach you'll have to let us know what you think of the Contemporary (we've stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge, Pop Century and Coronado Springs...

Good afternoon TLers. We had a 2 hour delay today. I enjoyed sleeping in a little. Still nursing a sore tooth, although it feels so much better. The antibiotics are doing their job and the pus filled sac is almost gone. YEAH! A little shoveling for exercise today and some step aerobics and lifting yet tonight.

Grades for the marking period almost done. What more can I ask for? How about a good fish and broccoli lean and green. Time to catch up with the posts...

Enjoy Coach, sounds like fun!.

Mia, I'm so proud of you!.

Barb, glad you're feeling better..

There I'm caught up for a change...

Freya.

, I am a firm believer in what was meant to be will happen. If he isn't going to spend time when you are dating, it won't get any better later on. You made a good choice!.

Tramp.

Congrats on your loss this week..

Penny.

I hear we are in for some more nasty weather tonight in the NE. We haven't had quite as much snow, but the cold weather and wind has been bad this winter. I think we need a NE express down to the SW. It has to be warm somewhere..

Anna.

And.

Mia.

Welcome!.

Coach.

Congrats on your loss this week and an extra day at home. Although I know that at some point they have to be made up.....when it is warm. That's the worst part...

Size 6 jeans and banana pants. Reason to celebrate!.

Ok, so true confession time. I am scared to death to buy size 4 jeans. I tried some Blu Bandolino size 4 jeans on. They fit and looked good. But I was scared to death to buy them. Afraid if I bought them, I'd gain weight and never see them again.

I think I need some therapy!..

Ditto the standard answer ready for those planned cheat posts...

OMG....just saw Penny's picture....that just made my day! Ok....so I'm a little slow here. Old age setting in...either that or I'm still trying to defrost from the ice and cold...

Wow, I am now in a size 6 and want to get back to size 4..

Thats awesome for you-fuzzywuzzy-Congrats. jenn..

Rut roh.....another confession, I just realized that all those years I thought I was a picky eater, I was lying to myself. I was a sugar eater. Thank heavens for my new palate!..

Hey guys,.

Do any of you do taco salad? I was thinking of doing that tonight with the 99% FF Jennie-O Turkey....7oz cooked, right, plus 2 healthy fats and my green? Don't use condiments except at dinner, so that will be taco seasoning..

Any tips on how to make it yummier?..

Em, I use Mrs. Dash Fiesta Lime seasoning. Tastes just like Taco seasoning, but no sodium or anything...

Emily, my best advice for yummier is to stay OP. Plain tuna with a little salt tastes fantastic to me at this point. So does cold cooked cabbage with nothing on it. *grin* Hunger is a fantastic flavor enhancer!!!.

And you're totally right about the 7 oz, 2 healthy fats, 3 servings of green routine. Enjoy!..

Whhoooooooooooo.....hoping I can *really* join in. Posted once last week and was then slammed by snow, power outage, and misery. Been OP since Friday..

Of course, we had snow and ice again today. Hoping that the power stays on. Bought some canned tuna in case I lose power again..

Roasting brussel sprouts tonight in an effort to continue my adventures in expanding my veggie repertoire. Also making a small spinach salad to go with my chicken..

I, too, am a tea lover. It keeps me OP! Particularly on a cold miserable day! I have some Teavana for special occasions. I drink so much tea that I try to buy organic so that I don't flood myself with God know what pesticides. I just started drinking rooibosvery good. Trader Joe's has some great, inexpensive organic teas...

I guess what I meant was whether certain OP veggies went better with it. I'm thinking spinach, cucumbers and tomatoes. I might just cook it with a little lemon pepper seasoning and use my Newman's Own Lighten up Balsalmic...

CG - are you in maintenance? Because brussels sprouts are not OP for the 5&1 - too many carbs. Sorry.....

I was just thinking "wow, how did I miss that on the list?" I love brussel sprouts. Thanks for letting us know, Freya!..

Oh yeah, I got that you were looking for actual useful advice. But all I had was "I'd eat my shoe if I'd keep losing weight!" silliness. *grin*.

Your veggies sound great though!..

Fudge, fudge, fudge.......

Oh wait, I don't really like them! Golden rain shower..

I'll make some people at work happy by bringing them in!.

I guess I am having a BIG spinach salad..

It is funny, I would have noticed it when I went to weigh the quantity. I guess I need to bring the magic list with weights to the grocery store to avoid wasting money!.

I have been eating the same handful of veggies OP and was trying to expand my repertoire..

Back to the drawing boardthanks for the save Freya!..

No problem, but I was sorry to do it - I love them!!!..

Haha....I love veggies but not so much cruciferous ones. My mom has had both breast and ovarian cancer....so I have been trying to add these for the cancer fighting benefits. I'll try them again in maintenance!.

Spinach salad with bell peppers tonight!..

Mine is "I'd eat cat food if I knew I'd get these results!".

Weird but I logged it all into "myplan" and it's saying I'm getting like 3600mg of sodium...I'm guessing because there was no Jennie-O option, so I had to use butterball 99% sliced turkey? Does Jennie-O really have that much sodium?..

I got nothin' to say to you silly sodium-avoiders. Drink more water if you're worried about it..

And back away from my salt lick. Slowly. Hands where I can see 'em...

I have to second this. Tastes great, and it's rare for me to find a seasoning I love that isn't based on salt. Great on ground turkey and I use it in my taco salad pretty much every day...

That's my secret in maintenance, too. It's amazing how simple it is to keep my weight down if half of every single thing I put in my mouth is vegetables. Lots of veggies. A moderate amount of lean protein. A little fruit, a little starch, and little dairy, a few carbs. But my diet is nearly all veggies and lean protein, and sonofagun, I can maintain..

That doesn't mean it's always EASY. But it's simple...

Sodium is so variable. I have a friend who weighs over 250 lbs and loves her salt with no apparent ill effects. Her BP is normal and she doesn't retain fluid..

No matter what my weight is, if I have an extra shake of salt, my hands puff up like sausages! While my bp is normal, I worry that this vigorous salt reaction might one day lead to high BP..

I might *sniff* be jealous of your salt lick, Freya!..

Ok just finished reading the 10 pages... holy great green cow it's a chatty bunch in here. Forgot to open a word doc so I'll just say congrats to everyone now fitting into smaller sizes. I hope all grumpy tlers feel better and now I'm off to make a mocha out of a shake. Oh and for the salt thats the only thing I ever go over on. I've given up on trying to stay below 2300, instead I drink lots and lots of water..

TTFN.

Audrey..

There's a guideline for max salt? LALALALALALALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!!..

Okay so since I have never bought "real" jeans how do you go about it? Like how do I know designers? I told DH I would love a pair of really fashionable jeans, I walked into Macys and was completely lost...
