First question I have is Which of free web iPage hosting services supports FTP and lifetime subdomain? Looking forward for any response. 2nd question I got is.. I'm having a problem and an incredibly helpful user suggested:.

"Check the chmod value of includes/modules/dynamic_mopics.php. Try something like 755.".

I've searched these forums to find out what "chmod" is, how to check the value and how to change it...to no avail. I don't want to overburden this friendly user with basic questions so I thought I'd ask ya'll...also figuring my question might just help someone else too!.

So chmod what is it and how do I change it's value?.

Thanks.....

Hmm... I need to find out myself. I don't know what is the right answer to your question. I'll do some Googling and get back to you if I got an decent answer. You should email the people at iPage as they probably could help you..

Well I am not a programmer, but have got many help on this forum already, so I guess it's my turn to answer the simple questions like this.

As I do know this I will help you out..

CHMOD is a thing where you give rights to certain files..

You don't have to let someone else do it for you since it is really REALLY simple and you do not want to be charged for it..

OKAY here goes :.

Do you know how to upload your files to your webspace with an ftp program ? .

If yes , well then your almost done..

Click on the file you want to give rights [i use flash FXP] with your right mouse and the enter the value in the box which shows a texlabel called : permissions.

Click enter , the file will do something automatically and YOUR DONE !.

Well that wasn't so hard was it.

Good luck..

Thanks for your reply I understand what you're saying but my FTP program doesn't seem to let me do this....

Anyhow I emailed my iPage hosting company and they've done it for me, and it worked!.

Thanks so much for your reply, I think I'll find another program so that I will be able to do this (if necessary) in the future...

I use Flash FXP too!.

If already logged in you can rightclick (or ctrl+O) on the specified folder and choose from the dropdown menu attributes(CHMOD). Here you can adjust the settings (permissions) of the folder. Just type in the field 755 tur on-off the checkbox to get the right result like 755..

My turn to try and help too!.

You can also change permissions via your host's control panel - many times they will provide a feature/link called File Manager or something to that effect. You can use this to change permissions and many other functions of a regular Ftp program as well and is all done thru an easy to understand user interface..

Hope that helps too!.

Good Luck!.

Just wondering if this is something I can change myself, or can/should my iPage hosting company do it for me?.

Any explaination would be most appreciated.....
