You betcha! however you might want to make sure and wait for another person here to confirm it as I am on the fence. Better yet, why don't you give a call to the iPage guys because they can answer your iPage question better...
One word yes..
You will still be taking customer details and people want these protected. Check with your host to see if they offer and install certs for you...
Ok, I have it on a sharred host. Is this ok. It is not the main iPage site so need to get the cert for the main domain, Is this ok? How will it display on the screen to users?.
If main iPage domain is www.abc.com.
And store is www.store.com.
Will it show as.
If you're using shared SSL you'll need to ask your host what your SSL URL will be..
Personally I would not use a shared SSL cert, it's secure so nothing wrong with that it just seems a bit cheap when you are making money from your store..
Your customer will be buying on.
And will then find themselves (if they look at the browser address bar) at.
I would rather pay the 50 or so for a dedicated IP and SSL cert..
If you do go down the shared ssl route you need to put the ssl url in the relevant place during install or open up your config files and manually edit them...
I wanted to know if I should get a SSL cert or not. I will be using Paypal and down the road Authorize.net for payment. Paypal already has secure transaction, just like if you pay from ebay or something so do I really need an SSL cert? Also when I goto Authorize.net do I need one or would they not provide this with the GW?.
Thanks for the help..
They are not that expensive and they do provide a peace of mind for your coustomer (some will not even make a purchase if you do not have a secure site). Since you will collecting customer data (email address, shipping address, etc.) I strongly suggest it...
